Something I'm discovering while trying to pivot and build non-journalism businesses is that, like all entrepreneurship, it's constantly discouraging and filled with second-guessing. Then I see/hear about more media layoffs (like today) and wonder, "What other choice do I have?"

If the criticism is "why don't journalists write about X?" the answers usually are: -a word count limit of 600 or less -a publishing quota deterring longer stories -an editor shot down the pitch or cut that detail or angle -a beat reporter was laid off -freelance rates of $250 to $350

Earlier this summer, @msstephguzman.bsky.social asked me if I ever sleep because I take on so much and I laughed it off. Turns out, there's a big difference between being a night owl and having insomnia! And yes, perimenopause can start at 38. 🫠

I agree, but also, if it weren't for the Reddit "3 am Wake Up Club" posts, I never would've asked my doctor for help with my bad sleep habits. Now I'm posting about it on Bluesky, "the app for 38-year-olds," in case it helps someone else and yes, to make it everyone else's problem. 🙃
