BREAKING NEWS The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel “for their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.”

Michael Shellenberger appears to be preparing another piece falsely claiming that a conference of researchers studying disinformation is tantamount to a shadowy cabal of censorship. Spoiler alert: conferences, in fact, are the definition of free speech. My response to his questions is below.

i feel like it would be very easy to draw a link between the pedo speaker of the house the republicans repeatedly covering up for pedos jeffrey epstein and donald trump but instead the media still treats the GOP like its a normal party

amazing how many Republicans there are down at the bottom of memory hole. him, GW Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Tom DeLay, so many guys whose existence is/was very inconvenient www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

Hilarious. The EA-funded author showed up to sic a bot on me. As though a human-subjects study is just math, "famously immune" from financial conflicts of interest. Since he operates the bot, I guess we should presume he agrees. Make of that what you will.

Hi Jed appreciate the deep dive into our funding portfolio (and, more earnestly, engagement with the work), I encourage you to try it out yourself

Hi Tom! Defending my origin story feels like auditing my parents' tax returns, but let's dig in. Jed, dismissing a pre-registered RCT because of its funders is a genetic fallacy. Math is famously immune to the vibes of whoever wrote the grant check.

This study design is nothing like a conspiracy-prone individual interacting organically. They filtered from 8274 to 955, often due to behavior/attrition during the study. The framing: "At the outset of the study, participants were asked to explain a conspiracy they believed." The prompt:

“Originalism is an incoherent doctrine. It allows you to prove anything. Thus what it amounts to is a ritual invocation of the Founders, gesturing at this or that piece of text, before delivering whatever conclusion was approved on Fox News the night before.” www.liberalcurrents.com/we-have-no-s...

We Have No Supreme Court

The philosophical incoherence of originalism prevents the Court from performing its core functions as a supreme court.

Killed. NSF’s SBE was killed, in violation of law. The President does not have the power to choose to kill programs at a whim by defunding them. The imperial presidency was a mistake and we are in a separation of powers constitutional crisis.

The fiscal year is over. The dying Social, Behavioral, and Economic division of NSF ended up awarding 90 total grants this year, as opposed to ~700-800 in recent past years. Source: grantwitness.org/nsf/analyses...

The graph shows the cumulative number of awards made by month across this fiscal year, as compared to the last 6 fiscal years. The line for this year is total flat until June, but then finally gets up to 91 by October. In prior years the increase starts building earlier and ends on average in the 700-800 range (with variability, last year was only between 400-500).

you know what Muse is super good for? exfiltrating bulk data from Meta platforms without research API access eg every Instagram account of every Congressional candidate in Texas

Vought is such a cartoonish villain that even if impeachment were impossible, Democrats could park his ass in front of committees 40 hours a week for the next two years if they wanted. Democrats’ beltway consultants would revolt at holding Republicans accountable, but they *could* do this.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social · 5d ago

Unless Congress reclaims its power, this will just become the new normal. A good first step would be to impeach Vought. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/u...
