I've definitely moved more into critical metascience and it is not making me friends. Some in the open science space really do not want their views or behaviour challenging. This is how we do better folks! The space needs less group think, more diverse voices and more introspection.

Sad to see the poor methodology used here. The authors use an outdated list, ignoring more recent lists. We need to stop prioritising organisations due to their historical activity. This is normally a good group, so I'd have expected better. www.scholcommlab.ca/2026/09/01/d...

The really sad thing here is that there are people who think this means the 8.8% really were somehow better than those that just missed out. People who think a lottery would be unfair because this 👇 apparently works. I'd suggest most funding schemes should have a cut off and then lottery.

We keep talking about the competitiveness of Europe and we can't agree to properly fund our best instrument for scientific innovation.

If only those behind this alliance adhered to that behaviour..... As a result of my experience with those behind this I can never support it, issues with the model aside. There's active ignorance of evidence. Refusal to engage with genuine concerns. And so much worse.

The thing nobody talks about with advocacy work is just how exhausting it gets. This year has been constant op-ed writing, training creation & delivery, meetings & feedback to others, supporting others, research, report writing, talking & so much more. All unpaid. All in my spare time.

Got to say this is nice to see: Our mission is to advance open science, not the Center for Open Science. Opportunities to increase the sustainability of the infrastructure supporting open science by reducing our own scope and elevating others is in the public interest.

IMO we should therefore resist the temptation to be prescriptive and standardize workflows (yes of course standards for metadata, DOIs, etc.) and think of decoupled review and curation as an opportunity for diversity and experimentation 5/n
I've long supported preprint peer review and experimenting with those approaches but I've also been a loud critic of the PRC model. This is one of the reasons I'm concerned about the model 👇 but I have other concerns.
