I think a big part of this as well is the death of mono-culture. It used to be that everyone was more or less seeing/watching/reading the same stuff and critics were valuable both in countering and maintaining monoculture.

Went and saw the Odyssey tonight. It was good, I'm no hater. Nolan knows how to make a film for the theater. His stuff will never be my favorite thing, but I'm all the happier if he takes on projects like this.
