The "creatives" who use genAI at any part of their process need to understand I'm not desperate for new media. There is such a backlog of arts, movies, books, and games WITHOUT genAI that if nothing new was made again, I'd still need a hundred lifetimes to consume even a fraction of it.

In X-Men #15 there’s a line where Prof. X says to Angel, “It’s ok, Angel. You’re not made of asbestos.” I feel like there’s something historical in the understanding of asbestos that i’m not following there.

This. The whole situation is very messy. D&Q is making it so much worse (what was that statement? seriously). This whole thing smacks of a publisher not doing the work to support their artist. If they didn’t want to support the work that needed done, they shouldn’t have published the book.

How much is D&Q gonna defend Walden when they get sued? Many of the people agreeing that the comic is adapted from Cleves' book are concerned Walden is going to be left high and dry. That's not mob mentality 😒

This is shameful and dangerous behavior on the part UCF. I am so disappointed as a former faculty member. With the move toward more digital spaces there, it’s hard not to imagine a correlation—and all of this after student booed the commencement speaker who brought up AI.

News — University of Central Florida (UCF) abruptly shut down two of its three libraries today, plus an important resource desk within the main library. Staff were given no warning. UCF is the 2nd largest public university in the country w/ ~70k students. Library hours page confirming closures:

Fuck the reflecting pool. This has not gotten nearly enough coverage or generated the proper outrage. People thrown in prison for 30-50 years for the "crime" ofmaking zines and belonging to a book club!! This is straight-up totalitarian atrocity. Political prisoners thrown in a gulag to rot.

Advocates sound alarm after zines were used as evidence to convict protesters of terrorism charges tied to 2025 protest at Texas ICE facility

Comics Scholars: I was thinking of starting an online project where comics scholars write about issues they love, unabashedly. A place to just gush and put that gushing in conversation with our scholarship. Does something like the already exist? If not, would people contribute?! #comicsstudies

You have to hand it to the Times. They're still innovating in the field of pushing insufferable capitalist propaganda and they'll surprise you sometimes. Didn't expect "Worrying about AI will cause a crash like the Great Depression, which happened because of bad vibes," but here we are.

It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation. I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!
