Detention Watch Network

A national coalition building power through collective advocacy, grassroots organizing, & strategic communications to abolish immigration detention in the U.S. #FreeThemAll #AbolishDetention

Local communities are making it clear from coast to coast – they don’t want detention centers or warehouse detention. And they are winning! We demand an end to Trump’s cruel mass detention expansion and that detention facilities be shut down for good. www.inquirer.com/politics/pen...

ICE formally withdraws plans to build two Pennsylvania detention centers, Gov. Josh Shapiro says

The decision, which comes amid opposition from the state and from local communities, means the end of efforts to convert warehouses in Berks and Schuylkill Counties.

Last month, a U.S. senator warned that the Trump administration planned to deport 500 unaccompanied children. This month, reporting shows it has plans to relocate tens of thousands of unaccompanied kids to Texas. The Trump administration is attacking immigrant children on all fronts.🧵⤵️

NEW: Aurora Police say an ICE detention center employee shot a protester last night. She is expected to survive. 42-year-old Brandon Booth, who works for the ICE contractor GEO Group, is being held on suspicion of attempted second degree murder and other charges.

This morning, I was notified of another death in ICE custody. This is the 53th death on ICE’s watch during Trump’s second term. We must continue to fight for accountability for everyone who has lost a loved one. And it’s time to end the use of all for-profit detention centers.

This is an incredible victory for the local communities, researchers, litigators, and longstanding anti-detention organizers in these states that have been working tirelessly to stop these sites from going online. But warehouse expansion continues in AZ, TX, and elsewhere. The fight is far from over

If you paid taxes for 2025, you likely paid: $124 — school lunch & nutrition programs $49 — diplomacy to prevent wars $19 — USPS $19 — Federal Aviation Administration $18 — national parks and $4,049 — weapons and war. These priorities are hurting us all. We need change. #TaxDay

We are deeply saddened and equally enraged that a shocking 18 people have died in ICE custody this calendar year and 49 deaths total under this administration. No one is safe when ICE is present, whether on the streets or in one of the agency’s more than 200 abuse-ridden detention facilities.

ICE detainee found dead, 18th in-custody death in 2026. "Immigration & Customs Enforcement says 33-year-old Cuban immigrant Denny Adan Gonzalez was found unresponsive in his cell at the for-profit Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia, last Tuesday." www.democracynow.org/2026/5/4/hea...

Today the House ended the DHS shutdown by passing the Senate approved FY 2026 DHS funding bill that zeroes out funding for ICE and other parts of the mass detention and deportation machine. This is a testament to the power of everyday people to create change!
