If you haven't voted early, remember to vote tomorrow! Even if the polls look good. If you sit out because the polls look good, then the outcome probably won't be so good ... you wouldn't be the only one doing that. So vote!

What’s remarkable and wonderful to me is all the voter-intimidation they *didn’t* manage to organize. It’s too late for military mobilization; they puttered around idiotically in courts that said no; they talked about butts.

Students and community members at Dartmouth, where I teach, held the first Take Back the Night March since 2012. A big group. We marched down frat row to the president’s residence. Which is surrounded by frats. We chanted our chants and sang our songs & I thought it was a very good sign.

Refusing is a different move. The midwives Shiphrah and Puah refused Pharaoh. Dr. King openly broke unjust laws and took the penalty. Utah's Republican Lt. Gov. refused the DOJ's demand for voter data, and a judge dismissed the case.

Same. There was something that felt really radical about having a TV hero whose superpower was not just intelligence but thoughtfulness, and a kind of moral seriousness. Who showed from that first episode that you “win” by seeking to understand what seems like a threat.

I am so glad to have learned about the integrity of leadership from Patrick Stewart as a kid watching TNG. "What would Picard do?" feels like a fair guiding question. Thank you, Patrick, for everything.

A minced oath is a polite swap for a swear or a blasphemy (like “gosh” for “God”) and the best one I’ve come across is from Palestinian Arabic, where yifḍaḥ ḥarīmak (“may your womenfolk be dishonoured”) becomes yifḍaḥ ḥarīšak (“may your caterpillar be dishonoured”). * read on for more (a thread)…

So, AI is a lot like a thneed. We know who the Oncelers are. My brother and I bonded over the Lorax way back when. There are parts of our daily life that J would find completely foreign now...
