There was singing practice for a concert in November and I’m quite pleased I have found my voice again. It is sounding very good!

Every day there's been interesting birds and insects along the river bank, delivering distraction and head space.
In June a French guy booked lessons with me. He was doing his Bac in his 20s cos he'd had health problems in his teens, & with a month to his exam was failing English. We battled the tenses like they were hideous monsters, there was sweat & tears. This week he messaged to say he'd passed with 60%!
Ah good question... Am currently reading 'The Wee Free Men' at bedtime to our daughter - she loves my Feegles accent (although me shouting Ach! Crivens! may not be exactly the best thing at bedtime. It's impossible to tell who's enjoying it the most.....

Last 2 books I've bought at LBS have been post-podcast I might take a recommendation from someone I trust and respect on here but probably I'd try to hear the author talking for the vibe check Improvised / conversational speech is very different to written prose so it's silly but it's what I do
I saw an advert for a book on instagram and had purchased it from my local bookshop within an hour and a bit. It made me think that the biggest driver of me buying books is knowing they exist. And that's the hardest thing to let people know as an author, somehow!
What would your child do if they could spend a day in the past? This term, our time travellers will be busy making bread over an open fire, carving chalk with flint, twisting copper wire, weaving wool, firing a Roman siege weapon and digging for artefacts! Visit our website - tinyurl.com/ywx2ddb2

Just saw someone say that if Starmer was still PM, Labour would have lost this by-election and while I don’t doubt the analysis of his personal popularity, I do feel like they’ve misunderstood the conditions necessary for a by-election to be held in his former seat.
(i know the election *happened* because starmer left, you know what I mean)
not everything is because white guys fucked up/did well lol. Sometimes people quietly get on with the job at hand
I have seen ppl say Labour held because Starmer left, Burnham gave a good speech, the Greens self sabotaged. I'm gonna say Sagal Abdi-Wali is a great candidate. Local, clearly very connected to the area and thus far well intentioned. And maintained a 45% vote share to Starmers 48%. not bad
I baked bread while in a meeting/home office and forgot to get up the get the last loaf out of the oven. I was sure the extra 20-30 mins would be too much but now it just has an excellent yummy dark crust 😋

My first book was published & everyone in the universe was lovely to me! Happy Friday everyone!
I finished reading a YA novel that might end up being #1 read of 2026 for me!
My son got back from studying at the other end of the country. It’s always nice to have a son in the house who believes in housework (my other two, sadly, do not).
I went to a writing workshop with my mum and sister and really enjoyed it. Haven't done any creative writing in a long time so it was fun to explore, and get away from my computer!
Some good news for a charity I help out has made me smile this week.
Good turnout for book club last night, I got to hold a little puppy and I won the raffle.
Also, Alexei said he's 'cautiously pessimistic about Andy Burnham'. Waha. Spot on.
Introduced my daughters to John Carpenter's The Thing last night. They both loved it.
I’m seeing a reality TV show follow up - “David’s favourite kebabs!”
My smiles came from the excitement of the students on our latest SpaceWise Academy courses. Those moments you tell them something cool and you see their eyes light up with wonder. 🥰🚀
We are off to see the Bayeux Tapestry. We're on a very tight schedule, so it's not going to be a relaxing day, but I am very excited.
I had a great time away, and have loads of photos of beautiful things, excellent gelato, and lots of coffee. And proof that 40-something women aren't invisible after all, at least not to insects who like their blood spiced with plenty of histamine and a range of medications.
