Your doppelgänger! Probably. Also an enthusiastic participant in the Bird-Based Omens Extended Universe. Donut aficionado. It’s my job to figure out what it all means.
Ok this is great. Enjoying reading while I have my coffee.
I have a master's degree in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, I've studied the 'Odyssey' in Ancient Greek, and I've been writing about the ancient world for over a decade. This is my exhaustive review of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'. #Odyssey #classics talesoftimesforgotten.com/2026/07/23/a...
Whitehouse: "Next we get to this crooked slush fund Trump family tax amnesty scam. We've got these two new pieces of paper. One signed only by Blanche, one not signed by anybody. Neither of which has any legal effect whatsoever. They are decorative. Can you trust Todd Blanche? I do not."
I wrote about the Trojan horse, and what we can learn from her mouth about different cultural attitudes towards deception and violence. As someone comments below, the phrase GIFT ARTICLE is pretty scary in this context.
Turns out @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social knows a lot about ancient epics www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

“Continued research at every level of understanding ALS is essential. We still lack a basic understanding of the disease, and there is currently no meaningful treatment to slow or stop the paralysis it causes for the majority of those affected… Finding answers requires stable and sustained funding”
I’m a neurologist. I’ve delivered ALS diagnoses. Then I received one myself
“Losing the ability to speak has taught me how quickly society conflates physical dependence with diminished personhood,” writes Dr. Christopher Campos.

this issue was just in front of the Supreme Court, and the case was the state of West Virginia against a middle school girl. which side sounds braver to you?
Awful: The local press in Maine is crediting Susan Collins for getting Trump to agree to ICE bodycams nationwide. It's cynical BS: She voted for $70 billion in ICE money and against requiring bodycams. But this kind of thing is why she could still win. New from me: newrepublic.com/article/2138...
JD Vance: "I think Nixon's historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, and deservedly so. I joked that if Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12 hours news story. The idea that it took down a presidency is crazy."
I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them
Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary
Welp, guess I have to find a different functional use case for "AI" when I'm trying to be generous.
AlphaFold was always bait-and-switch; now Google confirms it. A hyper-narrow bioinformatrics model with actual science bolted on whose guesses can be experimentally checked was never a licence for socially-applied slop at scale, but it's done its job. Effort transferred to LLMs.

yeah I’m gonna start blocking people for being shitty to Will Stancil, a person who I do not follow who does not follow me. the slashed tire is fully nuts and if you’re part of the problem from here you’re likely contributing to whatever fever swamp conditions caused it
I don’t give a shit if Will Stancil is arguendum the maximal version of whatever kind of bad person you think he is, he’s a community member who just got his tires slashed plausibly because of the way our community treats him, and if you don’t get that you shouldn’t be part of my community
the three most upsetting facts about exercise: 3: it doesn't mean you'll lose weight (muscle weighs more than fat) 2: it doesn't mean your old clothes will fit (wtf happened to my shoulders?) 3: it really works, makes you stronger and healthier, incredibly powerful against depression, etc
This is so facially stupid I don’t know why he’s not laughed out of the room. Similarly to the Economist interview, in which an ACTUAL ECONOMIST could not push back effectively on Musk’s “in ten years we won’t need money” BS.
“What we need to explain to the world: Number one, we are close to creating a genie that can grant any wish. Number two, we are going to make sure that our first wishes broadly benefit humanity” - Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI — This is definitely the opposite of Anthropic’s AI kills all jobs pitch.
New Yorkers: Tonight's forecast calls for potentially life-threatening flooding, especially for those living in basement apartments and neighborhoods that have flooded before.

Really gripping episode of Blood in the Machine. Definitely want to read Muskism now. Probably shouldn’t be sharing via Apple Podcasts, but will have to work on that.

The ongoing Musk nazi tweets just have me wondering if corporate boards are even a thing anymore
The reporting by NBC News on our depletion of weapons and by the Times on the selection of a CNO is more evidence that Hegseth—with his firing of competent general officers, politicized promotions, and a culture where truth-telling is punished—has done real damage to our military.
