I can't believe we're into the last week here at #ArthursStone, #Herefordshire. Lots of recording and final digging to do, but we had a fun evening last night in the pub, introducing the US students to Morris dancing.

An end to week 2 here at #ArthursStone, #Herefordshire in the blazing sunshine. Early finishes, shade breaks, and ice lollies are the order of the days. Exciting new developments on the other side of the avenue to the stone circle, and features appearing in the stone circle trench.

The megalithic dolmen of the Arthur's Stone long cairn in Herefordshire, on an extremely hot, clear day. To the left in the image, the smaller stones of side passage poke up amongst the parched grass, while to the right, the portal stone, an upright large slab in front of the dolmen, takes the full force of the sun. In the centre a large capstone is held up by large megaliths, buried into the ground.

An undeniably emotional experience seeing the other half of the ‘peacock room’ in Oplontis being excavated and meeting their counterparts: the two peahens that graced the facing wall. What a delightfully playful idea by the artist. Compliments to my colleagues, excavators & conservators. Spectacular

Because I saw this last night and cant let it go: if you are critiquing people for how long it took them to get a PhD, grow up. Getting a PhD is hard enough without also trying to please some arbitrary speed guideline. It took me a long time in part because of covid, partially because I had to work
