The moral is, if you’re appointed Ambassador to Greece as an unqualified nepo hire, don’t try to do bonus grifts. The grift is being Ambassador to Greece. You are being paid to hang out in Greece for 4 years. Grift accomplished

of the many things that bar examiners do that drive me crazy, one of the biggest ones is how many of them UTTERLY REFUSE to provide any information about when results will be released. don't even THINK about asking them, they'll be posted on a RANDOM DAY, and you should be GRATEFUL for the privilege

theoretical question for folks more familiar with ABA Standards than I am: does 303(a)(2) ACTUALLY require an upper-level writing requirement, e.g., participation on law journal, a seminar, or directed study? or could it be satisfied with a class that has a SUBSTANTIAL written component on an exam?

This framing is wild because somehow, the people who pushed the lie get passive-voiced away into a generalized “mistrust”, the Democrats get named as the ones who need to learn their lesson from this, and then we move on to a broader framing for the Republicans who are described as simply “worried”.

The furor over Mr. Talarico's absence was extraordinary on several levels. It showed how mistrust of politicians and the mainstream news media, combined with online algorithms that incentivize outrageous theories, has created a Wild West of misinformation. It offered a lesson for Democrats: In such an era, it is politically risky for a candidate, even one too ill to campaign, to disappear for nine days.
And it showed how worried Texas Republicans are about Mr. Paxton's prospects as Mr. Talarico continues to poll ahead of him, despite hundreds of millions of dollars in G.O.P. advertising. No Democrat has won a statewide election in Texas in more than three decades.

My great-grandparents immigrated from Italy in the early 1900s. My great-granduncle experienced so much prejudice as an Italian-American that he changed his name from Tesitor (sp) to Taylor. I'm very proud of my Italian heritage, so please, I'd like to say: CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS IS BURNING IN HELL

President Trump has a midterm message for Italian Americans: Remember what I did for Christopher Columbus. https://wapo.st/4yap3mX

A statue of Christopher Columbus holding a scroll is positioned against a backdrop of steps and a building. The text on the image references a hypothetical scenario involving the White House.

the violence was backed up by the formal legal mechanisms that were required for an ostensibly "democratic" transition of power. in 1876, gubernatorial elections in FL, LA, and SC saw Democrats "win" as the result of pressuring eligible voters not to vote and corrupt election contests where needed.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

I genuinely respect the pettiness of a landowner who says: “The city won’t approve my development plans for this fucking downtown parking lot and keeps jerking me around because it’s filled with NIMBY assholes? Fine! Then no more parking is allowed at the parking lot.”

Bob Metzger followed through on threats to close a large portion of a downtown East Lansing parking lot because of a thwarted high-rise development.

one of the biggest selling points of AI is that it will help you do the things you don't want to do more quickly and efficiently. whether these people realize it or not, what they *don't want to do* is remarkably revealing of their souls. basically the plot of the 2006 Adam Sandler movie "Click"

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

My wife: Can you read our baby a book?
Me: I can just play an audiobook from my phone.
My wife: But then it won't be in your voice.
Me: I can train a voice model.

it's time to share (again) one of the weirdest things I've ever seen: at the 2019 Burton Awards reception at the Library of Congress, Ken Paxton participated in a magic trick with magician Shin Lim in which he held a card in his mouth, while Jane Sullivan Roberts was also on stage as a volunteer

Found the email I sent when I got accidentally added to the faculty listserv of an orthopedic surgery clinic and nobody would remove me so I sent this email to all faculty/staff/med students and they removed me almost immediately

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

this is just so, so deeply cruel, stupid, outrageous, offensive, blood-curdling, idk, from beginning to end. it is a pathology unto itself. it is the disgusting bigotry of a tried-and-true bigot whose brain is increasingly broken by old age. it is, to say the obvious, intolerable in our society.

Trump: "Annie 'Trannie' Andrews is running against our wonderful Darline Graham for the Senate in South Carolina ... Trannie is not for South Carolina, and South Carolina must show, in the upcoming Election, that it is not for her."

Annie “Trannie” Andrews is running against our wonderful Darline Graham for the Senate in South Carolina. For years my dear friend Lindsey would say that, “Darline is the finest, most reliable, and one of the smartest people I have ever known.” He would then always add, “Also, the most loyal!” Oftentimes I would be upset with Lindsey for saying this, because I thought I had all of those qualities. In any event, Darline is a High Quality person, maybe the Highest, and Annie Trannie is not, in particular, as it pertains to representing the Values of the Great People of South Carolina — She is in favor of Transgender for Everyone, Open Borders, Defunding the Police, High Taxes, a Weak Military, and will absolutely fight to take your guns away — In other words, she is against our Great Second Amendment! Trannie is not for South Carolina, and South Carolina must show, in the upcoming Election, that it is not for her. VOTE FOR DARLINE GRAHAM — SHE HAS MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT, AND WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN! President DONALD J. TRUMP
