Having written off 4 years of carbon tax revenue (and no indication yet how that hole will be filled) the Tanaiste spends a section of his speech talking about how important energy transition is to his Government. But what the the measures he is actually announcing?

Every piece of Government advice is telling them to Stop the Fare Hikes The Just Transition Commission is urging public transport fares to be maintained at an affordable level to reduce the National Carbon Footprint Please Email your TD’s!! 📧 www.independent.ie/irish-news/p...

Coalition urged to scrap public transport fare hikes as €100m-a-month fuel excise cuts continue

The Government is being urged to halt planned public transport fare hikes amid warnings that climate action and the cost of living should not be pitted against each other.

“Today, the Parades Commission allowed a restricted parade down the Garvaghy Road, first time in almost 30 years. This is not a moment for triumphalism, but responsibility. We owe the next generation a broken cycle, not a repeated one.” 1/2

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are hiking fares in the middle of a cost of living crisis. And after the summer we’ve just had, we should be encouraging more people onto buses and trains and expanding services to reduce our transport emissions. We do that by making it more affordable - not less.

Are you being hit by the bus & train fare increases? Let the Government know how you feel. Protest outside the Dáil at 6pm Thursday. These increases are a political choice - let’s pressure FF & FG to reverse them at the Budget in 4 weeks time.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are trying to put the blame of these public transport fare increases on the National Transport Authority. Make no mistake - these fare increases are a political decision and a result of this Govt's disinterest in public transport and their disregard for its users.

The Government has chosen to increase public transport fares, chosen to make passengers pick up the bill during a cost of living and climate crisis. Today @rodericogorman and @feljin_jose spoke to every media outlet in the country to express their frustration at this decision.
