Green Party Ireland Irish progressive political party focused on: 🌍 climate action 🌳 nature restoration ✊ social justice

Is this building derelict? According to the law, it's not. We have a serious problem with dereliction in this country and the threshold for what can be deemed derelict is too high. The government is replacing the Derelict Sites Levy with a new Derelict Property Tax collected by Revenue.

Amid an acute shortage of after-school places, I believe that the Dept of Education should be encouraging schools to make their buildings available for after-school use. The Taoiseach's response today was surprisingly encouraging - I'll be following up on this with the Dept and relevant Ministers.

July was the last time that the Minister met face to face with the solicitors We see growing chaos developing in the courts And we see victims of crime being retraumatized, justice being denied to victims of crime And now we have Jim O’Callaghan weaponising victims of rape in the media overnight.

The Green Party supports union members who have been driven to take strike action this Wednesday. The Government needs to stop posturing, recognise that workers have been hit by months of inflation, and deliver a fair day's pay for a fair day's work.

Tomorrow, large parts of the public sector will be shut for 24 hours. The Green Party supports union members who have been driven to take this action ✊ The Government needs to stop posturing and recognise that cost-of-living measures introduced so far have not helped them sufficiently.

Who said demanding climate action couldn’t be a party? 60,000 in Brussels today! We want renewables to be a priority, not a backup plan. We want polluters to pay and our health to be protected. We want a future where destroying nature is considered a crime.

And there we have it folks. Prices will continue to rise We need help to bring down our use of oil and gas. And there’s less available to do that because of what FF/FG thought might get them a couple of votes down the line. Special mention here for Labour who voted with them on this.

Picture of article saying that carbon tax cuts made no effect on the price of oil and gas

There is nothing in the budget that will help people to bring down their use of fuel. Carbon tax reductions will be eaten up by higher oil and gas prices Then what? There’ll be less €s available to allow people to take measures to lower their bills permanently

Having written off 4 years of carbon tax revenue (and no indication yet how that hole will be filled) the Tanaiste spends a section of his speech talking about how important energy transition is to his Government. But what the the measures he is actually announcing?

That's it! 3 reviews, one extension of an existing relief, one (welcome) increase in an allowance. This tinkering around the edges does not show a Government serious about transitioning away from fossil fuels and making renewable energy easily available for all households across the country.
