Sandra Bland's death tells us all we need to know about pretrial detention: it's death-making. Sandra's bail was set at $5,000 following her arrest in Texas on July 10, 2015, after a traffic stop. She was able to make a call from jail after seeing a judge, confirming that her bail had been set.

It costs about $70,000 each year to imprison one person in the United States. For women, who are the fastest-growing incarcerated population in the country, that cost is 25 to 75 percent higher, according to a new report shared with The 19th. https://bit.ly/4oKpuBy
