Intensifying Israeli military airstrikes on Gaza in recent days, coupled with a surge in violence in the West Bank, have further inflamed an already devastating situation for civilians in Palestine, including our colleagues at AMAN (Transparency International Palestine). 🧵⬇️

Kemi Badenoch on Today defending the neo-Nazi council candidate by saying that it is right to give those who have previously been radicalised a chance. Badenoch on Shamima Begum, whom was groomed by Islamic State when a child, "Citizenship is a privilege, she forfeited it." 🤔

"We're super smart rocket engineers working for a super genius who's so smart that even Iron Man thinks he's smart. Anyway, we fucked up the trajectory of a bit of our rocket so it's going to smash into the Moon and pollute it for ever. Would you like to buy our satellite internet?"

Welsh Conservatives on Instagram this morning, campaigning on behalf of fossil fuels during a record-breaking drought that has parched the country and set the stage for severe wildfires.

An Instagram ad for Welsh Conservatives with a photo of solar panels on grass. Text reads "238 acres of farmland". The words "238" and "farm" have been scrubbed out in red, and the words "solar farm" have been added under the word "farm". The description reads "Parc Dyffryn Solar Farm will cover 238 acres of farmland in the Vale of Glamorgan. Sign the petition to say NO"

“This is an initiative of the chief government statistician, it is an initiative that’s come out of Stats NZ. It’s been in ferment for several years now,” said National Party Minister of Statistics, as he sought to nimbly side-step the bus he had just chucked Stats NZ under. #nzpol

The Government lacks the 75 percent support needed to push reforms through – but the next Parliament could vote to delay the 2028 census.

🔴Israeli Channel 12 citing satellite image analysis: Inspection of the damage in 19 Lebanese villages indicates the destruction of 18,000 buildings, with the percentages as follows: Khiam 90% Kfar Kila 87% Aadaisseh 90% Deir Siriane 65% Taybeh 65% Houla 83% Qantara 52% Meiss El Jabal 65%

I'm a big champion of political democracy -- but this recent (and, sadly, not unusual) episode makes it hard to stick up for Parliament and its law-making when the government's approach to parliamentary deliberations is so perfunctory.

The bill raises serious constitutional and rule-of-law questions. But govt MPs (other than responsible minister) weren't prepared to stand up to meaningfully address the constitutional concerns and seek to justify the bill. Poor form. Seriously poor form. And constitutionally sapless.

Shouldn't that be "right-wing" Free Speech Union? Same writer, same paper, but only the tax group gets called out as "left-wing" huh? (And if your response is everyone knows the FSU is right-wing: a) they do not, and b) some people think the Nazis were socialist because of their name.)

Oh are we identifying the ideology of lobby groups now? That's great! I look forward to the NZ Initiative, Free Speech Union, Taxpayers' Union, and every bank economist being called right-wing in the headlines of their numerous self-generated stories from now on.
