If you haven't worked in the industry in the last two years because you've been unable to find a job, it'll boot you out of the survey. So say you're self-employed.

"Why do you see yourself leaving the game industry [in the next twelve months]?" AAA layoffs are decimating institutional knowledge and making a stable career impossible. Greed-first financial climate makes AA funding precarious. The job market is impossibly competitive. A lack of functional marketing systems makes indie success a coin flip at best. And cost of living in "industry cities" is too high to bear a long unemployment spell."What considerations or values guide your decisions about if, when, or how to use generative AI tools in your work?" Personally: it short-circuits any learning process and atrophies personal skill. Discipline: It's unsuitable for the work I do (design). Professionally: genAI output is not protected by copyright and may expose me to theft/plagiarism liability. Industry: it's being over-deployed for work it can't do and used as an excuse to lay off, under-hire, and overwork workers. Societally: the genAI industry is vacuuming up investment money and starving other industries, including games. Morally: LLMs and image generators are trained on creative work taken without declaration, consent, or compensation.

Why do the headphones plugged into my Samsung monitor not play the audio from all programs? It works fine if I plug into my Realtek chip's port or connecting via Bluetooth, but not over HDMI. The Windows audio panel shows audio playing, I just can't hear it from all applications.

Further to this, we regret to announce that a story, written under the pen name, Lucien R. Starchild, and published in an earlier edition of Utopia SF, is strongly believed to have been written using AI tools. The "work" has now been removed from our archives.

Just because it's an amazing stat, the Chicxulub asteroid impact, the one now almost universally cited as the decisive cause of the dinosaur era mass extinction event is thought to have had the force of roughly 5 billion Nagasaki nuclear detonation blasts.

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

One of my most cherished classes is my 18th century novels course where the primary learning objective is "learn how read long novels." We did a "couch to 5k" approach to attention span and note-taking.

My hot take about the “students cannot read whole novels / watch whole films / etc.” is that they can learn to do it. None of us are born with attention spans suited for long media. It is a learned skill and can be developed with practice.
