Ben Shapiro has recreated Judeo-Bolshevism from first principles, just replacing "Jew" with "Muslim."

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social · 6h agoThe proposed deal now under discussion would give Iran a 5-7% toll for traffic through Hormuz, making the war a massive victory for the Iranians and insuring them a long-term dominant position in the Gulf. It would reflect pretty much an unconditional surrender by Trump to Tehran.

If we act like these spaces and these rules do not have some underlying original reason, original things they are intended to protect against (and other things that they should be immaterial to), we risk the spaces and rules themselves becoming part of the apparatus of discrimination.
(Similarly when "single sex spaces" were enshrined in law there was originally a great deal of effort to acknowledge that separate sex spaces were often, in fact, used to discriminate against women and the only legitimate single sex spaces were ones which existed to protect against discrimination)

If the Burnham government wanted a REALLY ambitious target to improve the life of the nation, it would be "Solar panels & aircon for your home for five grand, AND we'll lend you the money interest-free", and then building the infrastructure to deliver it.
Dave Andress@davidandress.bsky.social · 9h agoThe thing is, you can right now if you want have a combined solar/aircon install that will mean you are pretty much in profit on electricity generation forever after, and safe from a heatwave. But you have to own your home, & have five digits to spare.
This is risky because, for instance, if you forget that "Right to Religious and Philosophical Beliefs" exist not to just create a castle around any faith, but to protect every person's right to freedom from religious persecution, you end up getting religion protected over heretics and apostates.
One of the bigger problems the 2025 ruling has introduced is establishing that, instead of resolving equality cases based on trying to as best as possible integrate everyone's right to be treated humanely, we use philosophical debates about what someone's true legal essence is to decide rights.
