The diesel car is not only harmful to our lungs, but is now also considered toxic to its owner. Dutch motorists looking to sell their diesel cars are finding it difficult; the second-hand car market for diesels has collapsed, and even exports of second-hand diesel cars are falling.

At the end of 2025, the Netherlands saw a sharp increase of BEV registrations as purchases were brought forward to avoid new tax rules. But now in September that rate of BEVs is being reached without the threat of imminent tax changes. This is the trend.

French supermarket E.Leclerc has lowered the price of its EV charging network to just 0.17 €/kWh. This is lower than some residential electricity prices, especially when you consider the cost of a home charging point. Unfortunately not (yet?) available adhoc / in roaming. www.charge-elec.leclerc

In 10 years’ time – or perhaps even 5 years – we’ll all take it for granted that electric trucks can charge anywhere. For now, I’m still impressed by just how quickly this transformation can happen. Here, along the important Brenner 🇩đŸ‡č🇼đŸ‡č route:

‘Laddfattigdom' or 'charging poverty’ In Sweden, too, there is growing awareness of the inequality between those who can charge their EV at home (low costs, reliability, time savings) and those who are dependent on public charging infrastructure www.di.se/nyheter/det-...

Five dimensions of energy poverty
‱ Financial aspect: Significant price differences between home charging and public charging hit those without their own charging point particularly hard.
‱ Spatial (geographical) dimension: The charging infrastructure is unevenly distributed and is often rolled out in areas where early adopters and affluent residents live, rather than in line with future needs.
‱ Functional dimension: Faulty charging points, limited operating hours and long waiting times for grid connection cause operational problems.
‱ Temporal dimension (time): Time lost in queues, detours to find charging points and slow charging result in wasted time and stress.
‱ Digital dimension: The need for brand-specific apps, poor roaming coverage and complicated payment systems that do not support card payments are excluding users.

BMW has officially opened its battery plant in Bavaria, where battery packs for the new i3 series are assembled from cells. Take a look at who they invited to the opening and how he manages to avoid the word 'electric'. This is especially noteworthy after a month full of beer events.

It is good policy in so many respects: (i) it makes the benefits of the green transition tangible for poorer households (ii) it reduces dependence on volatile gas prices (inflation policy) (iii) it supports a key industry in which the EU has a significant market share (industrial policy)

Really hoping we see social leasing pop up all across Europe. Poorer households are the ones that stand to benefit the most from electrification. However, the upfront costs can be too high relative to their income to be affordable.

France đŸ‡«đŸ‡· is extending its 'social leasing' scheme, which offers reduced monthly leasing rates for electric vehicles to lower-income households, to heat pumps.
