Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!

Oh, thanks for the heads up! It wasn't my personal page thankfully (mortifying) but it WAS the old url from before I decided to make my "OC blog" a strictly Silver & Iron blog and make a new OC blog with the old URL. But that's a good sign to make it easier to find Silver & Iron from that URL too

Straw page ask: "Hi! Just wanted to let you know that on the comic fury page, the link to your tumblr points to your personal one and not the webcomic blog"

LRP I draw pretty quickly and have been maintaining a page production pace that industry professionals have mentioned is a little faster than average and even I don't make two full pages a day. Huh. I think if you don't leave yourself any time to pause and reflect your comic and art suffers for it

Honestly I'd like to add you shouldn't even be following INDUSTRY standards unless you're IN the industry with a deadline that requires it. Nor pushing yourself to go above & beyond it. Set yourself w/ guidelines that suit you and account for REST, injury, holiday, and family/friends.

For the love of Kirby please do not listen to anyone who says you should be doing two finished pages of comic book art a day. It is a recipe for burnout, misery, and eventually, the destruction of your career. Industry standard is one a day, five a week. Period. Got it?

Comic tip for artists who struggle with layouts or making each page not so same-y: be less literal about where your characters are sometimes. Become more artsy with emotions they feel or information they share, you don't need them standing in the same room/position like a scene from a movie

Hi y'all, Recently we found out that my brother has a heart condition and will require extensive care. To cover some of the costs I'm running fundraiser by taking up commissions. Most tiers are affordable so people get some good art while helping us out. Plus a $1000 for those who can spare more.💜💜

written about this before but whatever.

Videogames as an artform have a problem with nostalgia. Not that people shouldn’t have nostalgia. Or that games shouldn’t draw from the past. But instead the weight we give to nostalgia.

When people go back to enjoy old games, we assume it’s a nostalgia thing. Do people assume that with books? Or movies? Or music? People certainly do go back in time with those mediums for nostalgia! It happens! I know when my sister is listening to certain cheesy old boyband pop or punk she’s often having a musical nostalgia trip! That’s cool! But we still don’t ASSUME, CONSTANTLY thats why people go back to stuff.

People like old stuff because it’s cool and interesting. It’s historic. People go watch Metropolis still, but how many people alive could even be nostalgic for a movie like that?

I almost want to see the word Nostalgia excised from discussions about video games – not because nostalgia is bad but because we over use it to the point where it’s actually harmful I think.

I mean I made IWBTG and am making an NES style game right now and even for me, the obsession with ‘nostalgia’ seems crazy.

Old stuff is cool. I know this because I see a lot of you kids on my tumblr feed talking about games I know you didn’t grow up with. It’s like finding your parents record or CD collection. Thinking the primary greatness of old games is bringing back memories of eating cereal and playing games on a saturday morning is a great injustice, even if those memories for some are perfectly worthwhile things.

#this post is 11 years old and still holds true

I'm not saying this to be a hater because I'm still enjoying it, but the more I learn about Fields of M*stria's development the more I understand why it's... kind of like that

I keep planning/writing sexual tension between two of these characters and it never goes anywhere or even means anything lmfao. Like it doesn't reflect any actual desire on the characters' behalf, but it also isn't there as some metaphor or symbol. It's just incredibly fucky things keep happening

The past couple of months have been so weird for me (one of those "hurry up and wait" moments) COMBINED with the fact that I just could not get the next chapter of S&I to gel in my mind so I was dragging my feet. BUT I GOT THE SCRIPT NOW!! I'm actually really happy with it and it all came together.

I try to be tolerant but I just have no respect for people who look at intentionally ambiguous storytelling and go "NO, actually, obviously there is ONE definitive concrete canonical answer and I will entertain NOTHING else" WHY DO YOU THINK IT WAS LEFT AMBIGUOUS THEN CRAIG!!!!!

LRT if you are making comics then I think it is imperative that you read (any genre, fiction non fiction, etc) and nothing can replace this, but I also think it's important to watch things outside your genre. Play games you wouldn't otherwise. Watch old/overseas movies, documentaries, TV shows, etc

the only non-negotiable for writing is you have to read. doesn't matter if you're writing comics, prose, screenplays. read. read books, articles, scripts, comics. fiction and non-fiction. read lots of 'em and never stop reading.
