"the rocket’s second stage remained in space, floating aimlessly among thousands of other pieces of space junk that active satellites must steer clear of." Just a reminder that there's an ethos behind all of this, and it's not one of stewardship. www.theguardian.com/science/2026...

It’s not just that this is absurdly awful, which it absolutely is, it’s that these people have nothing better to with their time and their role as public servants than come up with ways to make everyone’s lives worse on all levels.

President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v

This face! One of two praying mantises my boy found and we got a lot of closeup looks at it. Watching its mouthparts move was otherworldly! (This was part of a thread of us finding cicada’s shedding exoskeletons, but the closeup on its mouth was just too good!)

Early on @coyotemedia.org made a list of dream bylines we'd LOVE to have on the site and @annaleen.bsky.social was one of the first on it for me. So stoked to see this piece about ~~speculative transit~~ and big dreams for the Bay Area. www.coyotemedia.org/funding-bay-...

A Modest Proposal for Funding Transit Instead of AI

In the ’60s, the Bay Area almost got a high-speed train from Marin to San Jose. What could happen if we dreamed big again?

If you meet me on the airport shuttle bus in Detroit, and you’re talking comics on the drive, there’s a good chance I’ll give you a print of my superhero syllabus and an excerpt from Unflattening (with teaser to Nostos). As one does…

All the hysteria and rhetoric that consumed a community around these bike lanes ended and now no one talks about them and people use them (including those with mobility devices) all the time for work, school, play and everything in between. Change is hard for some people but we all adapt.

Ok, I’ve read, I’ve sketched, I’ve read more, designed more, been stuck, been surprised, & finally I figured out all the boundaries for each page for this ch on life’s origins so I’m good to go & start in earnest! Each page will mean reading again + more but I’m off. Onward! #Nostos #Unflattening 2

A large newsprint page with thumbnails for a comics chapter and lots of notes related to it all around a discussion of the origins of life.

Awful. “The section of 6th Street where the crash occurred is quite wide, with four vehicle travel lanes — a street design that drivers often feel comfortable speeding on and is a long distance for pedestrians to cross,” - and if this is a known issue, should be addressed by the city…

The 57-year-old man was pronounced dead after being struck by a driver while riding his bicycle in the city’s South of Market neighborhood.

New (overdue) arrival! @neilcohn.bsky.social’s Speaking in Pictures is an inviting journey on visual literacy, linguistics, & of course on & in comics! Brings together a lot of Neil’s work in easily accessible form, & covers lots of ground! (& look whose work makes a cameo…) Will deploy in classes!

Cover to Neil Cohn’s speaking in pictures. Comics layout with the title and other images in itA page from the book talking about how artists use the whole page - includes a scan of david Mack, Chris ware, and me - my entropy comicA page comparing different kids of hands artists draw A page about different types of emojis with upfixes over their heads

Glad to see @lforlloyd.bsky.social post Moore’s essay on VfV -my favorite on creative process. While it seems planned out entirely, its genesis is instead a tale of accidents, synchronicities, unexpected twists leading to its emergence. A testament of human creativity that won’t come from shortcuts…

This man & his mis-administration are not only destroying our present, but our future and our past. Good reporting here by @dmain.bsky.social (coincidentally I had a student make a comic about a related pupfish from the one in the story - also endangered with a tiny habitat)
