Republicans, in their infinite wisdom, left a big gambling loophole in the Medicaid work requirements. I'm no fan of the gambling industry, but if you are on Medicaid and struggling to deal with the work requirements, taking a $580 bet on both sides of an outcome is one way of getting around them.

Scientist here: It is widely known inside science that this—top-down imposition of a research agenda—leads to mostly rote, boring, non-innovative work. Building an institute to do discovery science is hard: you hire young people, put them together, hope synergies arise and ideas fall out.

The cover-up is always worse than the crime? Harvard's latest filing says that Gino manipulated a file to cover-up fabrication, hid the laptop used to do it during the discovery process, and did more [redacted] destruction of evidence after being compelled by the court to share the laptop.

It's baffling how many "rah-rah AI" types seem to forget that (a) the process of solving a problem is often good for you, and (b) it's nice to have people around who have the experience of solving problems, (c) especially communities of such people.

Whenever someone sends me an obviously AI-written email, I think so much less of them. A (tenured, R1) professor I know once told me they used AI to re-write all their emails, and my opinion of them has never recovered.
