I get (too well) the executive function challenges that keep folks out of the profession but I also can’t get over how few journalists seem to be neurodivergent when a big part of the job is asking annoying questions and refusing to let something go 😆

Today @thesicktimes.org: Big feature by @khaoticaa.bsky.social exploring the immense challenges that trans people with Long COVID face in getting healthcare. "Neglect within healthcare and the queer community both contribute to the medical and social erasure of trans people."

Trans people with Long COVID navigate a new “dark age” in trans health - The Sick Times

We spoke with and surveyed dozens of trans people navigating gender-affirming care and Long COVID during Trump’s second term.

There are a lot of decent people doing good work right now, and hope is breaking through. As a result, our enemies are thrashing about and lashing out in extremely dangerous ways. We must be alert and aware and resist overwhelm and panic. Where can you contribute?

Keep deleting & rewriting a post about how nice it was to report on a community event this weekend and encounter other maskers in the room. Among other benefits, the group normalizing makes my job much easier. More people talk, agree to interviews, when I’m one more masked person, not the only one

Birding is basically asexual cruising, highly skilled loitering in odd areas. Hang around parks, beaches, water treatment areas; listening, watching. Notice other people with appropriate gear, nod silently then huddle close, unspeaking, all looking in different directions. Wait for action.

Five birders waiting along a lake path for a rare bird to appear. Six birders and one dog loiter by a lake, waiting for a rare bird to appear. Birders gather on a path, all looking for the same rare bird.

with all respect: i'm losing touch with what AI does because i have no interest in it and it's not my business. nobody worries about me losing touch with developments in particle physics or artificial bull insemination. it's not my fault the richest guys on earth want me to make their toy my life

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

This is one of those important, overlooked stories that's hard to report & even harder to place. I'm grateful @prismreports.org understood what's at stake for students fighting these fragmented free speech battles, while they also endure the chaos in higher ed & the nation in general 📻⬇️

“When campus radio stations’ FM broadcast licenses are sold or transferred, communities lose media made by & for young people.” @brittashoot.com reports on the free speech fight playing out on college campuses where student radio stations are disappearing.
