Members of the public in Cork City are being asked to get behind the wider adoption of 30km/h speed limits in the city, campaigners have said. The move to set 30km/h speed limits in cities and towns was delayed when the Government abandoned a system that would have made 30km/h the base limit for urban areas. The new system of councils rolling out the lower limits has started.

Interesting comparison between most recent Google Earth photo in 2023 at this junction at Carrigrohane Rd/Leo Murphy Rd, and 2nd pic from 2010. All active travel measures were removed not long after being installed here. There has been progress in Ballincollig over the years, just not here.

I welcome Taoiseach Micheál Martin's pledge to "back effort to hire more bus drivers for Cork"—I just hope it's not another empty promise. In 2025, Cork people can't rely on buses to get to school, college, or work. Thanks Rachel Lysaght @echolive.bsky.social for highlighting this issue.

Speed limits are changing from 80km to 60km today on rural local roads across Ireland. In Ballincollig, the area marked red in the image below, Curraheen Rd & Maglin Rd, has been reduced. The Lee Rd is also now 60km and there are lots of changes around Blarney and elsewhere to be aware of also.

This is the junction at Eastgate in Ballincollig. Narrow footpaths with obstacles, a pinch point for buses and no safe route through for cyclists. As a main artery into Ballincollig village, improvements under Bus Connects can't come quick enough.

A good reminder that cycle lanes and footpaths don't appear congested as they (mostly) allow people to move through quickly and efficiently. Video taken from charlemont luas stop on a rainy morning.

Western Road is one of the most depressing places in the city. An endless stream of traffic in the evenings, bringing all buses (and cars) to a complete stop. Add to this the misery of constantly being left stranded by full or ghost buses. Sums up transport in this city perfectly. #Cork
