Sent out the last warning about CocoaPods going readonly soon! The light dimming is just over a week. I realise I've been writing Nov 1st, but that's a Sunday and it's cruel to potentially break things on a Sunday. So, it'll be on a Monday, on a timezone that works for US peeps

The email I've sent which went to myself

Hey there,

You are getting this email because the address is registered on CocoaPods Trunk (the place where you submit CocoaPods Podspecs for public use). This is the follow-up to the email I sent in January.

As a reminder, Segiddins and I came up with a long-term deprecation strategy for the ecosystem: Switching Trunk to be read-only. We're now at the tail end of that plan:

- [x] Plan announced (Nov 2024)
- [x] Disallow scripting in new pods (May 2025)
- [x] Email everyone to let them know (Jan 2026)
- [x] Email again (Today!)
- [ ] Early test week of read-only (Nov 1-7)
- [ ] Switch to read-only (Dec 2)

The switch will keep existing builds running, as the switch is to not allow new Podspecs on Trunk. If you still ship releases via `pod trunk push`, now is the time to move your release process over (SwiftPM is the natural home) and to push any final versions you want available before December.

During the test week, pushes to Trunk will fail just like they will after the switch, so if something in your process breaks then, that's your signal to fix it before December.

If you want more context, I'd recommend reading the two blog posts linked below:

- CocoaPods Trunk Read-only Plan: https://blog.cocoapods.org/CocoaPods-Specs-Repo/
- CocoaPods Support & Maintenance Plans: https://blog.cocoapods.org/CocoaPods-Support-Plans/

I also talked about this transition in the Swift Packaging Indexing podcast if you prefer audio: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/swift-package-indexing/id1654567329
and a friend covered it in this blog post: https://nesbitt.io/2026/06/23/sunsetting-a-package-manager.html

“why wouldn’t the internet archive be using the latest php” probably the same reason my sonos speakers are like a decade old, they get the job done and would expensive and laborious to update and i am not a billion dollar company

We've updated the @puzzmo.com streak system today, now a streak will self-heal in three days. So, if you had a max of 31, take a week off, then do three days in a row and you're back up to 34.

I am at the Huddersfield international crisp festival (at the sportsman) - I will update you all on my crisps. Starting with Doctor Salas's Extremely Spicy Habanero Can confirm they are damn hot

Will you be in NYC on October 19th? (Possibly for RevenueCat's App Growth Annual. 😸) Well I'll be hosting a hackathon at Pursuit's headquarters, and the theme is building for NYC! We'll have teams of pros and builders from our program making cool products using NYC's open APIs.

New blog post: On realising I need to evaluate my engineering principles in a post-LLM world This year, I've come to understand that the values (which have paid off incredible dividends) for the last decade aren't as applicable today as they were blog.puzzmo.com/posts/2026/0...

A screenshot of my blog post masthead, it reads:

A link I have relied on for the last 8 years broke:

<https://github.com/artsy/README/blob/main/culture/engineering-principles.md>

The link was a markdown document in Artsy's shared open-source documentation repo, it was the result of a few introspective sessions by the Artsy dev team where we settled on a series of principles that describe our general approach to software. I used the link in blog posts, hiring notices and in private chats a bunch.

Here's [the fixed link btw](https://github.com/artsy/README/blob/e4b7dff3209b43f4ab63bad919f2500972aade1b/culture/engineering-principles.md) because it's a git repo. I think the removal of the engineering principles isn't some ominous mark against the current day Artsy dev team, but I wonder if they just spotted a cultural change before I noticed it.

For almost a year the largest project I have been working on is building support for non-Puzzmo games on @puzzmo.com Ribbit was built in 90% of that system, and Hue Complete Me was 100% in it. A month ago I ported the Crossword to it. Got a game? We're exploring opening up bsky.app/profile/stfj...

📣 We're trying something new over here in Puzzmo land — community games. We still have plenty of our own games coming, but if you've got a game you think would be a fit for Puzzmo, reach out! More info & the submission form here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... Submissions run through October 2.

@robdubbin.bsky.social My dude, I got the bag! Thank you so much! I've got a present for you coming to puzzmo hq (hopefully this week) which I can leave there either till next xword con or can get left with zach/Brooke too so cool!
