I'm bad at self promotion, but did you know that I'm also an editor and that you can hire me? I have edited history books (most recently for Osprey) and TTRPGs (for Modiphius and Exalted Funeral among others). Full list: www.stuartellisgorman.com/editor Can contact me via website or here!

Editor — Stuart Ellis-Gorman

I am a historian, writer, and editor specialising in tabletop RPGs and board games. This page lists the projects I have worked on as both a writer and an editor.

New ‘How to Play’ day! I can’t recommend many games to introduce somebody to historical games more than Baltic Empires. The simplicity of this epic game’s mechanics and flow make it a great entry point into wargames. A brilliant design by Brian Asklev, check it out here: youtu.be/49-uZQCmz4g?...

Got a copy of Strat-o-matic baseball from 1980. That copy of the game didn’t originally come with a d20, so for some resolutions you would need to generate a number between 1-20 shuffling the 20 included pink cards. The previous owner instead made this chart, which has a perfect 10/216 distribution!

While I love my niche stupid hobby of historical board gaming, sometimes it does just make me want to scream. Take the latest example, a board game about the Irish Potato Famine where you get to compete with friends to see who survives best (?) www.kickstarter.com/projects/com...

The Great Hunger

Easy-to-learn, card-driven game, rich with historical detail; explores 19th-century Irish expansion, blight, famine, & emigration. 2-5P

🎲✂️ Historical board game idea: a collection of games published as an anthology or edited volume, similar to what you see in academic treatments of complex topics. Like 5-6 designers take on a beefy historical topic or era and each make their own game about one part of it.
