I’ve been reading Muskism. I know I’m annoying with this BUT every evil person isn’t dumb. and every evil person being dumb on X isn’t merely dumb. It’s very much worth your time to parse why Musk uses this rhetoric the way that he does.

Mehdi Hasan: "The reason Donald Trump liked being around Elon Musk is that he believes wealth equates to intelligence - The beauty of Musk buying Twitter is we've seen him showing us daily how dumb, credulous, conspiratorial and easily manipulated he can be."

I had such a great time digging into “Muskism” with @bentarnoff.com and @quinnslobodian.com. It really gives us a lot to ponder about the system we’re living in and how central Elon Musk has been to helping define it for his own benefit. Highly recommend grabbing a copy of the book!

Is Muskism set to define the 21st century, in much the same way as Fordism did through the 20th century? This week @bentarnoff.com and @quinnslobodian.com join @parismarx.com to discuss the system Elon Musk has built and the threats it poses for society. Full ep: techwontsave.us/episode/327_...

this bill authorizes the NSF to provide grants for incorporating "AI literacy" into K-12 education. So infuriating to allocate federal grants to create a system for which profits funnel directly back to Big Tech. Further infuriating that this is proposed while the NSF is under-funded & under attack

A new bill introduced by Senators Adam Schiff and Mike Rounds would award grants to the National Science Foundation—which has endured massive funding cuts under the Trump Administration for science research—to put “AI literacy” in schools.

"Staat und Techunternehmen sollen über kurz oder lang zu einer Einheit verschmelzen.Als »Muskismus« haben der Historiker Quinn Slobodian und der Tech-Autor Ben Tarnoff diese Konstellation in ihrem vor Kurzem erschienenen gleichnamigen Buch bezeichnet." www.spiegel.de/politik/deut...

conforming to the genre is *more central* to the performance than *answering the specific question,* which may diverge from the expected genre. the genre of "radiologist analyzing an x-ray" does not usually contain "there is no available file to analyze" thus that answer is not typically available.

Today, @bentarnoff.com and @quinnslobodian.com consider whether "Muskism" could serve as a possible successor to post-Fordism. How should we understand Muskism's distinctive regime of accumulation, and what kind of social contract does it propose to stabilize its disruptive effects?

Muskism as Fordism

Coined by a German economist in 1926, Fordism came to describe the dominant political-economic order of the mid-twentieth century. Could "Muskism" play a similar role in the twenty-first?

@moiraweigel.bsky.social wrote one of the most enlightening (and earliest) pieces on Alex Karp's fashy PhD. She now has written this luminous piece that gives a persuasive materialist account of the right wing assault on theory. Truly brilliant stuff. direct.mit.edu/octo/article...

Hating Theory Today

Abstract. Drawing on nearly a decade of research, this essay investigates the hatred of theory on the political right. The phobic fascination with theory is over a century old. Yet, in recent years, i...
