Brilliant article by @beccauliasz.bsky.social about her one-month stint in the 'Network School'.... she writes the best description I've seen of Balaji Srinivasan: '...part of an emerging techno-authoritarian intelligentsia set on dismantling American democracy' 🔥

Always a tonic to read actual reporting from the "network state" movement rather than historical reproductions of their own rhetoric with the valence flipped. Uliasz is great here 👇 brooklynrail.org/2026/10/fiel...

It's also very funny: "Their dimly lit and cheaply ornamented walls are lined with dark leather couches and bookcases of fake cardboard books titled inscrutable things like DARWINS THERIE and Furniture Design Idea Book."

One thing DOGE did was bring attention to the fact that there was another model for how tech could interact with government - one which was more people-centered and ethical. Here is an effort to sketch out the history of that movement, which I think will be relevant again in the future (Open access)

"From Civic Tech to DOGE: The Role of Tech Movements in the American Administrative State," by Donald Moynihan argues that civic tech and DOGE represent contrasting approaches to technology-driven government reform. doi.org/10.1111%2Fpa...

What a brilliant piece. It reads like a fictional journey to a fictional society in part because she is describing a cult. A man more or less LARPing into oblivion while causing harm in the medium and short term.

The decline of Reform — and the fragmentation of the far right — should be a major news story too. But most media barely care… More evidence that media are not “just reporting the news” but are actively shaping it. With significant political consequences.
