Out on Criterion. Adapted from Jim Thompson's 'Pop. 1280'. I saw this at the Auckland Film Festival in 1982. The print was missing the final reel, so the film just stopped 10 mins before the end. The next day, the papers raved about the 'abrupt ambiguous ending'.

Has anyone ever pivoted to anything faster than 3AW from the Liberal Party to One Nation? To put it in movie nerd terms, it's like when the Cinemania CD ROM was abandoned overnight for the IMDb.

It's tricky to recommend, as the first season is a bit unformed - especially the first ep (presumably a pilot) where everyone is basically the same character. In S2, Danny DeVito arrives awkwardly and takes a while to get comfortable. But by S3, it's firing and never looks back.

My kids have been haranguing me for years to watch this but I struggled to get into it. Now on season 4 and absolute gold - loving it! Firstborn is devastated that I'm getting to experience it for the first time and he will never get that joy again 🥰😁

Bill Oddie, what a lovely bloke. He wrote us a letter when we started making The Young Ones, wishing us the very best, and warning us against interference from higher up. He didn’t know anyone in the cast personally. It just came out of the blue. Lovely thing to do.
