I'm glad @leahreich.com read this book so I don't have to. My weird theory about tech memoirs by women is that they all want to be The Devil Wears Prada, and they all fail. (I still have not read The Boy Kings of Facebook by Kate Losse, so I don't know that it's an exception, but I suspect it is.)

I know everyone hates the New York Times, but unfortunately you have to click on this anyway. It's a review I wrote about a book I did not like. FWIW I originally wrote more criticism and less explaining, but it was not to be. Happy to say more here in a thread! www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/b...

Book Review: ‘Don’t Be Evil,’ by Claire Stapleton

In “Don’t Be Evil,” Claire Stapleton, a former Google spin doctor, tries to make sense of her time in the industry.

For lunch I had a criminally underrated Top Five Treat of Summer: My first tomato sandwich of the season. Tomatoes, a little mayo (I use Kewpie), salt, white bread. For extra decadence, sliced brioche. Heaven. Do not @ me with your annoying mayo issues.

Hey fellow Gen X friends, here’s something fun for you. Who remembers those cheap black torchiere lamps everyone had? Did you know they’re now a hot item on eBay priced from $150-225 for uncanny valley 90s nostalgia reenactments that look nothing like the 90s?

A screenshot of an eBay listing for a once-inexpensive black 90s torchiere lamp priced at a whopping $224.99. The screenshot image shows a faux-90s tableau that looks like someone’s idea of the ‘90s, with a big TV and ugly armchair and plants. On the wall are three posters: Nirvana, MTV, and an image of the Twin Towers which you will hopefully remember did not fall until after the ‘90s

Etsy suggested I might like this "abstract" metal sculpture which of course I clicked on and which of course I am sharing with all of you. I'm helpfully providing the link because I'm 100% sure one of you is going to buy it. Additional details provided in the alt text. www.etsy.com/listing/4342...

A screenshot of an Etsy listing of a hand holding a silver-colored metal sculpture that's on sale for $72.20 and has a description that reads "Handcrafted Polished Metal Sculpture – Abstract Animal-Inspired Art Piece, Unique Desk or Shelf D... The sculpture is clearly a dick and balls. But that's not the best part! The best part is that it's a dick and balls walking stick. This is a screenshot of a hand holding the same silver-colored metal sculpture showing the three pieces of wood that screw together so you can also use the sculpture as a cane or walking stick This is another screenshot of the hand holding the sculpture, with the sculpture facing forward, perhaps to show off how anatomically correct the dick is and how wrinkly the balls areThis is another screenshot of the hand holding the sculpture, with the stick screwed in

Does anyone else have the "food that is good in theory" problem? Like you see something at the store, say to yourself "I bet that's great, it's right up my street," buy it, then find you're unable to ever eat it as soon as it's in your house? Just stare at it blankly every time you open the fridge

My feed is 20 seconds behind, and I know this because I heard the bar across the street and 41 floors down screaming before I heard the whistle

Over the past month, New York has welcomed the world. From neighborhood watch parties to the stadium, we’ve celebrated the communities that make our city the global capital of the beautiful game. Today, we close out a historic World Cup, proud of how New Yorkers showed up every step of the way.

This boring zero goal championship match is the universe testing all the "do Americans even like sport" guys to find how much *they* even like sport

Instead of a red card it should be a scarlet letter, and the player should have to wear it publicly until the next time he can play again. I want real world stakes people

I'm watching in germany. The German commentators kept quiet for nearly the whole thing until suddenly the shot widened and we just hear with a German accent, "Oh, Miss Piggy"

I took a shower after the first half and emerged to see... whatever that was? on the TV? What year is it and did something happen to me in the shower
