It’s darkly ironic this guy and the movement behind him are the executioners of the “diversity is in opposition to merit” push that’s currently running through mainstream institutions throughout society.

It is truly wild to see a software company do press releases about their software being shitty, unpredictable, and unreliable like that's a good thing. We have a word for this, and it's malware.
Again the idea that merit and diversity are somehow in opposition already starts from the assumption bigots are correct about diversity.

So imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I found out the other guest on this Bloomberg segment was none other than the OG @alondra.bsky.social. We had to go to the show talking about wall street to have 2 Black women be the ones discussing AI. (not sure where Alondra's Dr/Prof. title went tho)

I don’t want to dunk in any one person, as I see this argument a lot, so I’ll post a screenshot rather than quoting it, because this sentiment is common. Peter Thiel has a philosophy degree. Lots of these guys have liberal arts degrees. Credentialism & reverence for institutions won’t save us.
Being able to write code without being able to do some level of critical sociotechnical analysis is like being able to write code without knowing how to test it.

I'll add some nuance here — most local pushback against data centers is actually quite fluent, and not grounded in the more wild-eyed rhetoric you see on social media. Very often, the core premise is a simple, correct one: you can't trust what Big Tech says in its promises to a local community.

Yes, data centers don’t actually use up a lot of drinking water. Accuracy is good for its own sake. But still, right or wrong about data centers themselves isn’t the point.
