I think that Dolly Parton was, for a lot of people, an ambassador of the "good" values people think of about the South: kindness, hospitality, can-do spirit, sharp and witty and down to earth. I think for a segment of people, too, she was theantithesis of a lot of noxious masculine country stuff.

Off to see Coyote vs Acme (probably with every child on Merseyside 😕) tomorrow afternoon so I’m making tomorrow’s dinner now. Not-beef, woodland mushrooms, veggies I found in the fridge and lentil stew. 24 hours on low. Will also make dumplings but won’t add them until tomorrow morning.
Took a couple of hours today to typeset a feature on General Hospital (the 1972 ATV one, not the 1963 ABC-US one, obvs) which covers a lot more ITV hospital dramas and was a total fuck to do. Left me with a spare facing page, into which I inserted Hugh Lloyd in 'Lollipop Loves Mr Mole'.
