We made it to Election Eve. Just want to say a big thanks to all the colleagues and sources that helped the Milwaukee Courier cover this wild race. Your interest in the Black press is so important. Regardless of who wins, let’s argue about it on Wednesday and then let’s quickly find common ground ❤️

Imagine being a Republican from Wisconsin who opposes an official honoring of the day slaves in Texas found out they were no longer slaves. Also, anyone opposed to Juneteenth because “we already have an Independence Day celebration” should be required to explain their stance to a black audience.

News: Tom Tiffany opposes Juneteenth as a holiday. David Crowley says it’s disqualifying for Wisconsin governor milwaukeecourier.com/news/2026/06...

I had the honor of interviewing Mike McGee Sr., who is speaking out publicly to Milwaukee for the first time in nearly 20 years. Former colleagues of his also provided their time for this project. Thousands of special Juneteenth edition of the Milwaukee Courier will be dispersed tomorrow. ✊🏾

News: Republican candidate for governor Tom Tiffany recently had comments about Menomonee Falls High School starting a Black student club, saying “D-E-I must D-I-E.” “Race-based preferences are un-American, illegal, and must end,” he added.

Some personal news: After more than five years of filing stories, today is my last day at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I’m moving on to a new opportunity that closer aligns with my interests. I’ll still be reporting on Milwaukee! More on that later.
