Personally I find "rules light" games are much more difficult to roleplay with and consequently make actual play with. I do not consider the pbta games I've done actual play in to be rules light. If I'm playing a pbta game a goal is to use as many of the mechanics on my character sheet as possible

Working on a TTRPG designed specifically for actual play. The mechanics are rules light and fiction first. The real focus is everything around play: pacing, scenes, spotlight, audio clarity, GM/player guidance, and producing good episodes without sacrificing a good game. What'd YOU want to see?

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

how hard it is to learn an rpg based on format (easier to hardest): box of cards zines spiral bound book hardback book in a funky size box with no cards softcover book above 100 pages softcover book under 100 pages big ass fucking book games explained verbally (9:00pm) other zines pdf

Very interested in this! No classes and no levels. I’m wondering how this lands with the filthy multiclassers out there. Especially the Warlock Bardbarians.

The #CORE20RPG is a new approach to d20 fantasy, built on a foundation of freeform characters with no classes and no levels. It turns the aging “pass/fail” core d20 mechanic into fuel for shared storytelling — and you can play for free right now! core20rpg.blogspot.com/p/the-core20... 1/

The covers of the CORE20 playtest PDFs, with art with Xavier Beaudlet. The “Playtest Player’s Guide” features an adventurer and their white tiger companion looking out at a haunted tower. The “Playtest Magic Grimoire” features an adventurer stepping into a glowing portal in a dark forest. The “Playtest GM Guidelines” features a shadowy archway opening up into a jungle ruin. And the “Playtest Creature Package” features a red dragon awaiting an adventurer standing in the entrance to their cavern lair.
