I have run more combats in more systems than I can count, and my one universal piece of advice to make them fun is: JUST KEEP ROLEPLAYING! - Have the enemies talk shit, taunt, joke, monologue, confess! - Ask how PCs feel! Why? - Make actions emotion driven! Hatred! Fear! Jealousy! Envy! Love!

"fiction normalizes—" idk abt any of that but I think social media has normalized absolutely batshit behavior and social conventions that are inconceivable to anyone that is actually well-balanced and thriving in the real world and that's a bigger problem than fiction will ever be
I've never understood guys who hate games with girls in them. I guess they must hate women? I play MOSTLY games with women. Not really because I prefer that, but because those tend to be the games with the best stories.
