Amazing to be at the National Portrait Gallery tonight to toast the knowledge-sharing & conservation efforts that have led to the public display of this mysterious #earlymodern portrait from 1626 (the artist and two boys are as yet unidentified). It will be on show in London until March 2028.

Loved being on @thisguysucked.com. The conversation starts w/ Tudor gold-fever & ends with how different history might be when we centre other perspectives, ask other questions. Or if the full-length Inuit portraits had survived to hang alongside the only one we have from this venture: Frobisher's.

New! Kate talked to @laurenworking.bsky.social abt her vibrant book A GOLDEN WORLD and the pleasures and frustrations of writing history through objects. Lauren shared advice about evoking the sensory experience of objects (even those long gone) on the page. www.draftingthepast.com/lauren-worki... 🗃️

Have really enjoyed hearing about @brettrushforth.bsky.social & Chris Hodson’s new history of the French Atlantic, here & elsewhere — stunning archival & geographic breadth, and lots too about the impact of encounter on 16th/17th century France (such as the Black boatmen at Louis XIV’s Versailles).
