Important thread ⬇️ There are multiple assaults happening on children and legal providers in the immigration system.
I was back in Immigration Court this week, this time for the hearing of a sweet little three-year-old girl, I’ll call her Estrella. She’s been in federal custody, separated from her family for more than 10 months – even though her mom lives here in NYC. The cruelty is truly mind-boggling. 🧵
👀Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas finds that illegal immigration under Biden massively reduced per capita transfers: 1% increase in flows cut transfers per capita by 5%! This is "consistent with the positive employment effects we find, which reduce the need for programs."
Lewis!!! What a wonderful win for LH and Ferrari. #F1

Election protection = business protection. Take it from @lynnecripe.bsky.social, CEO of the KonTerra group. Lynne is a veteran poll worker and enjoys it. She also recognizes that protecting democracy in turn protects the stable operating environment businesses like hers need to grow and thrive.
Lawyers can't reach clients in ICE detention. I've heard it anecdotally, but scale of issue is horrifying. Bloomberg Law is a legal trade pub so many may miss this. Screenshot from their CA newsletter summarizes "bleak" situation for justice and rule of law. news.bloomberglaw.com/litigation/l...
Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him. “When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."
Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process. This is one that stands out: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!
ICE is now responsible for 66% of the homicides in Minneapolis this year.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.
Best thing I’ve read this morning, from a human rights lawyer in Mexico. Translation is in the ALT-text.
While I was in prison, I was the food procurement clerk. It was my job to work with the first cook to design the daily food menu and then make sure the men were fed on a budget of $2.60 per person per day. How I helped make the best Christmas prison meal, a thread.

Prominent Afrikaners are pushing back after President Trump announced no U.S. officials will attend the G20 in Johannesburg, rejecting his claims of "white persecution" in South Africa as false and politically driven.

THEY. HAVE. NO. SHAME. How do you not know this by now?
Hassan: My vote was to do two things: 1) Make sure the government is functioning… 2) continue the fight to a realistic platform to get the premium tax cuts done. If that is not successful, then shame on the Republican Party and shame on Donald Trump.
I spent last evening at a volunteer-led fundraiser for HIV NGOs around the world who have been left high and dry because of the illegal dismantling of USAID. Most of the attendees were un- or underemployed aid workers. Rounds has done nothing to prevent either. He can pound sand. Do your job.
GOP Senator Mike Rounds on the Senate staying in session this weekend: “There's a lot of people that have got other plans in terms of things they need to do as well and if they're going to come here and sit, they're not going to be very happy,” Safe to say this is the general feeling ..
The fascists are not inevitable. They're not unstoppable. They're not all powerful. They want you to think that, but millions turned out last month to call their bluff. And millions turned out today to claim our power. We will win.
Not the most important issue tonight by any stretch of the imagination, but can anyone tell me where @nicollewallace.bsky.social got the sweater she’s wearing on @msnbc.com
Democrats should be drawing up legislation right now, this very minute, to bar Trump from helping himself to $230 million in taxpayer funds from DOJ. Challenge Republicans to hold a vote on it. Push this so hard in the media that every GOP Senate and House candidate is pressed to comment on it.
In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.
I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted “no one has died” as a result of U.S. foreign aid cuts. In Myanmar, the grieving father of a 2-year-old boy who died after their food rations were cut calls such claims a lie.
Starving children screaming for food as US aid cuts unleash devastation and death across Myanmar
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has repeatedly said “no one has died" because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program.

Today, I am making a long overdue post, adding USAID to Courage is Contagious On March 5, USAID wrote a dissent letter. It read:
