High Tide ('47) dir by John Reinhardt and starring Lee Tracy, Don Castle, and Julie Bishop. One of the “newspaper noirs”, with stellar writing, acting, and that ending. The @noirfoundation.bsky.social restored it in 2013, and I am going to host it for #TheNoirCollective in #Noirvember!

Hate to admit this as a Chicagoan, but I like Preminger’s MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, which screened yesterday at #NoirCity, more than Nelson Algren’s exhausting source novel. The cast is great—Sinatra, in particular—and Elmer Bernstein’s score is obviously a thing of brilliance.
