The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

Effective altruism / rationalism is a cult of broken priorities that denies the threat of fossil fuels. This is why Anthropic loves burning gas for power.

But when the government starts eliminating the data we use to determine whether those policies are actually working, that deserves a hell of a lot more attention.
I think it’s cool how “this toaster might electrocute you” or “these brakes don’t always work” is acceptable in consumer products because it’s software.
