open.substack.com/pub/mariosri... Tldr; I don't think the 1930s/2010-2020s are exceptional, I think it's 1945-1985 that's weird - that's the period where Authoritarian voters *aren't* voting for Authoritarian parties - which I'd describe as the Surprisingly Long Suppression of the Radical Right.

@mariosrichards.bsky.social I don't *think* this precludes predispositions or relatively stable traits. Maybe individuals are given licence to voice their predispositions to a greater or lesser extent depending on common knowledge of local norms

My beloved father in law Ranjith Chandrapala drove a bus that stopped at Ealing Hospital. He continued to do so throughout the pandemic’s first wave until he caught covid himself and died, in that very same hospital. Many very ordinary heroes risked their lives for things others took for granted.
