Really wonderful program of varied experimental shorts on 16mm; especially taken with Smith's hysterically playful "The Girl Chewing Gum," Hammer's atypically abstract "See What You Hear What You See," Jittlov's exuberant "Animato," and Worden's ecstatic "Throbs."
/EDGE OF TOMORROW/: Still find the first 30 minutes or so pretty dire with a lot of lazy set-up, but was more moved by the accumulating sense of weariness this time around and hints at all these past lives are subtle enough; gets closer to lightning in a bottle than it should.
WAR OF THE WORLDS: So viscerally upsetting in its first half, as Spielberg weaponizes the accelerating terror of the 21st century to make its extraterrestrial threat fully familiar, that even its weaker elements carry a modicum of dreadful uncertainty; potent stuff.

CENTER STAGE: As much about the interwoven yet separate golden eras of film industries as it is about the timeless actress(es) at its core; Kwan's maximal glamor acts as a revivifying force, a time warp only strengthened by its reminders of the present; completely stunning.
