The reviews of Tom McCarthy’s THE RHYL POSTER have been mixed, but the one in @thetls.bsky.social was very sympathetic. Have not read any of his other books, nor even heard of him. This one has passed the read-the-free-sample-in-the-Books-app test, so I shall buy the hb. Here’s the TLS review.

The other book was 💡📚 #booksky The Last Assassin: The Hunt for the Killers of Julius Caesar by Peter Stothard Cassius Parmensis was in at the death, & then every turn he took ended with him falling away to join another faction, always on the losing side. Enjoyed this! Have also read his Crassus bio

Just finished two books from October... #booksky 🖊️📚 Karen Thompson Walker The Dreamers This is not in my view [dom], despite some descriptions, science fiction, but it is very nearly #lablit - it just lacks for one major scientist (though there are a couple of scientists).

It’s not looking the mildest start to November. I think the coolest start in a decade. The breezier east breeze off North Sea will tend to keep nights less cold. But it does seem towards end of next week we’ll see winds die down… and so the risk of widespread frost appears.

I finally finished my September 'project' - a scaffold board guitar. I had the neck & parts from an old child-sized guitar with a built in speaker. Rather than fix that & learn how to re-wire I just made the board for the body & shoved everything on. Linseed oiled the wood -smelt of it for ages!

Im gluing the teeth back into this badger head that I found this summer. The roly polys sire did some good work cleaning it up in the compost. One sad discovery is the entry and exit hole from a gunshot. Guess thats one reason it was mummified on the outcrop.

Im still working on figuring out where all the incisors go.The angle of the bullet through the back of the head
