Whitehouse: "Today I think is a sad and embarrassing day for this committee as it looks like on a party-line vote we are going to advance out of this committee probably the most discreditable person ever to seek the office of attorney general. Let's start with the Epstein files ... "

As a Christian raised in a deeply Evangelical area, I feel comfortable saying that the purpose of this is not to convert but to try to confirm their persecution complex. I’ve seen Christians do things like this for my whole life and what they want more than anything isn’t a theological discussion…

The lab theory is v hard to reconcile w/evidence: So, two (2 lineages initially) infected WIV researchers didn't infect anyone in their community or around WIV (invisible masks?). They went to the market to pet (?) mammals, left traces of SARS2, coughed on people. Then put invisible? masks back on.

I still don't understand the purpose of this conspiracy theory exactly. Why would everyone be trying to cover up that the virus (which was clearly not bioengineered) was loosed through a lab leak as opposed to spread in wet markets?

A very good answer from Mamdani on what Kamala Harris will have to begin doing in order to gain the trust of Palestinian, Arab and Muslim Americans on this issue:

Former Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris called you recently.
She's reportedly reaching out to pro-Palestinian groups or people with pro-Palestinians views.
She's considering another run for president, reportedly. As Biden's V.P., she is closely associated with America's support of Israel during the Gaza War. Do you think she can regain trust on that issue? I think that the first step for anyone looking to run is to be honest about what we see today and what it would take to change that. And when I say what it will take, one of the common features between all of the people that I endorsed for Congress was that each one of these candidates spoke about how they would sign on to the Block the Bombs legislation [which would restrict the sale or transfer of specific weapons to Israel]. It speaks about an unwillingness to continue to be complicit in a genocide. And we're talking about billions of dollars in material support. So I think the first step for any presidential candidate looking to earn the trust of people across the country is a recognition of what our policy has wrought and what a different policy would deliver.

MAGA cultist Eric Metaxas was outraged by seeing an air quality alert triggered by the Canadian wildfires that suggested people limit outdoor activity: "How dare they say that. Who has the right to tell me or you or anyone anything? It's a free country. I can do whatever I want."

AOC on Susan Collins touting the money she got for body cameras and ICE training in the DHS bill. “Senator Collins wrote the blank check to allow these officers to conduct themselves in the way that they have in Maine in the first place, and she's the one who's poured resources into it.”

Trump just shrunk Bears Ears by 91% and Grand Staircase-Escalante by 90%. Bears Ears was the first national monument co-managed by tribes. Five tribes spent years building that partnership. It's been walked back. 100,000+ archeological sites now exposed to mining and drilling.

A lot of us know people - good people - who may have believed the promises they were told about "draining the swamp" or "no new wars." Now is the time to reach out to them. Not to say, "I told you so," but to say, "He doesn't deserve you."

There's an OMB rule change that would require political oversight of scientific grants, and could pull any that don't "reflect presidential priorities" Another country has tried this before! It was the USSR and it was called Lysenkoism. By @thsaey.bsky.social www.sciencenews.org/article/omb-...

Here’s what happens when you put politicians in charge of science

Proposed federal rules would rely on political appointees to decide how a lot of U.S. science gets done. History shows the consequences of such actions.
