This is a community that has an unemployment rate of 30% which rivals the great depression and suicide rates that are orders of magnitude worse than the general population. And those in power decided to go after this community and blame it for every problem in society. It's fucked.
It's the realization that this won't just be 5-6 years of our lives that might change with a new political party in charge. It's going to be decades of this to claw back from slowly on the terms that the oppressors set themselves. And a lot of people simply don't want to go through that.
And I think seeing some Dems go from actively avoiding even defending trans people to actively campaigning to make the lives of trans people worse is pushing a lot of people over the edge. It becomes a realization that the current moment isn't an aberration but rather a generational change.
The last 5 years have seen the largest rollback of civil rights of a minority group in modern US history. It's caused a mass internal displacement and refugee crisis that per capita is worse than the great migration in both scope and timescale. It's unprecedented.
Cis folks really don't understand what it's like to have who you are made into a political scape goat for 5 years straight with legislation targeting every aspect of your life. And then, the only political party that pretends to care is slowly being pushed to abandon you as a political albatross.
I've been doing trans rights related work for a decade and I don't think I've ever had so many friends in community in crisis. People are cracking under the weight of the despair of the current moment. I don't know what to do at this point. It's all so incredibly heavy.

For me it’s the fact that vote blue no matter who only applies for candidates they want, never ones we want. Mamdani? Cuomo runs 3rd party El-Sayed? They do all they could to derail him. But a dem starts spouting maga lies, we must vote for them. I refuse to accept that.
This week four Dems have said “I agree with republicans on trans issues”. This is in addition to those who already have. And some will say “that’s a small number” these are people running for office. If they win that’s more votes with republicans, and that’s our rights gone.
