Why not just model the response variable based on the distribution it best matches, with the link function representing the relationship you think that predictors have on the conditional mean? Estimate with MCMC, bam you're done. What am I missing? ...about to be told what I am missing

Outstanding insight into likely effects of student visa time limits on study and post-study training. Other countries will absorb some, but not all of the talent. The setback to scientific progress will concentrate in the US but will be global in scope and have lasting if not permanent effects.

The US Administration just restricted the duration of student visas. What's the problem? Now political appointees have full discretion to block most international students from staying after graduation. They've promised to use their new power to do just that. My new @piie.com post explains—>

Hey public health sky — Does anyone have a policy-making simulation related to social, political, or economic determinants of health that I could have a look at? I’m working on revising my final project for my undergrad comparative health politics and policy class and looking for good ideas.

Federal Student Aid staff are moving out of ED's main building this week, and will go to a building owned by Treasury in a couple of weeks. All of this is happening right as the fall term starts for millions of students.

FSA Staff Now Slated to Move to Treasury Office

The Office of Federal Student Aid and some of its staff are scheduled to begin vacating their current space in the Department of Education’s Lyndon B. Johnson Building on Friday. But rather than move ...

Yes, higher ed has the steepest percentage decline in trust since 2015. But it started only second to the military in trust back in 2015. Even with this steep decline, in 2026, higher ed has higher trust than most institutions except the military and the police. 3/

Thanks to BBC News for the invitation to describe the two big opportunities that President Trump missed today by imposing his Section 301 tariffs, as well as HOW (not) TO WIN A TRADE WAR.

95% of my communications from the Democratic Party look like this. I have never in my life signed up to be texted by a campaign or the party, and I spent fruitless months attempting to unsubscribe from these. These are functionally identical to scam texts.

Trump's 10–12.5% tariffs on 60 countries are the wrong policy They divert U.S. and allied attention from the trade war we should be fighting: reducing the dangerous concentration of production of essential goods in China, which Beijing can weaponize, and building resilient alternative supply chains

The Trump administration wants to try to give funding to individual researchers at universities instead of routing funds through institutions. I read this as an effort to eliminate indirect costs after the administration lost that battle in court last year. Gift link.

The overhaul will reshape $200 billion in spending a year and favors individual scientists to outpace China.

I wrote about Texas A&M's fall course-review process @chronicle.com. Some top-line results: Rhetoric and Film? OK, as long as discussion of critical race theory is removed. Contemporary Sociological Theory? Don't advocate while teaching. LGBTQ Literatures? Not allowed. #HigherEd

What Texas A&M Will — and Won’t — Let You Teach

Newly obtained records reveal that two courses for the fall were canceled outright, while administrators demanded changes to others. Instructors say the deliberative process is a black box.
