I've always had a vaguely libertarian-ish, do-what-you-want-as-long-as-you-aren't-hurting-anyone-else approach to vice, but gambling is a poison and it's swallowing our society. We should go back to illegal numbers games and seedy backroom poker parlors. At least that way it was contained.

It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

Hey @maryapetry.bsky.social and @11tulips.bsky.social I just finished The Golden Wolf Saga (3 book series) by Linnea Hartsuyker. It was another of the early Norse historical fiction sagas. Basically, they treated their own countrymen similarly as those they raided. It was entertaining.
This is a keen observation about the “base” of the Democratic Party and inherent perceived weakness, IMV. “Certainly every party or large societal group has various factions and pressure groups. It matters because lots of groups have the sense that the Democratic Party is fundamentally theirs+
