We focused on the Paula pronunciation but got way too excited when we started talking about Scull. AHN-hell SKOOL may be less metal sounding but it’s not NOT metal sounding!

Jesús “Cochihuila” Valenzuela died 41 years ago today. During the “Golden Age” of Mexican baseball (American stars like Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, and Willie Wells stacked the rosters alongside Cuban stars like Martín Dihigo, Lázaro Salazar, and Silvio García) Valenzuela thrived as a native star.
A 7-hour drive game me the chance to catch up on my podcast backlog, and this was a really great episode. There was a bunch of stuff I learned from it, so great job, guys!

MLB does their draft in the middle of the summer on a day full of games and then kicks out the media who want to continue to cover your sport. Brilliant gambit sir.

As far as the college game goes, even with all the talent coming through the NCAA I'm not sure it'd be good for college baseball. The proposal's so radical there are potential externalities everywhere. That said, call me if a 12-round, no HS draft is still on the table in January.
