as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be ​unlikely to risk transit without paying."

Excellent piece from @newsjennifer.bsky.social whose newsletter I highly recommend. We can't trust the Ellisons with anything, let alone this enormously influential network. You can already see their influence in CNN's reporting and commentary. It will likely get much worse.

The thing about air travel is, it’s very specific & everyone has a job. The crew’s job is to get from A to B safe & on time. We get upset when they don’t do their job. The passengers’ job, the whole job, is to sit there & not make a problem

JB is so good. He doesn't just talk about doing things; he gets shit done. While I would hate to lose him as Governor here in Illinois, I think he'd make a helluva president...particularly with a Democratically controlled House and Senate.

Does anyone else find it extremely insulting at a moral level that Elon's space junk is just crashing into the moon without any consequences? I don't know why it bugs me so much but it does. Just one more non-essential violation of nature by people who don't give a shit about anything...
