Books, politics, and things that make me laugh, Never give in.

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."

Willing to bet a farm I don’t actually own 😜 that it’s not an official act. Stated another way, this shit is a criminal unofficial act and gets no immunity. Season 1 of Let’s Indict Big T, airing in 2029, will be something.

Really. We're losing to Iran in the battle to control a 21 mile wide strait but we're laying down the law for the Indo-Pacific (half the world.) And our weapons stocks are depleted. And our DoD is run by imbeciles. And our Commander-in-Chief is, at his best, fast asleep? Sure we are.

The head of U.S. Pacific Command said Monday that coercive actions by China and other actors are challenging regional stability, warning the United States will not allow any nation to dominate the Indo-Pacific. https://to.pbs.org/3RwNThU

Does anyone else find it extremely insulting at a moral level that Elon's space junk is just crashing into the moon without any consequences? I don't know why it bugs me so much but it does. Just one more non-essential violation of nature by people who don't give a shit about anything...
