The biggest counties haven’t even finished reporting yet, so this must be based on the rural counties. Now, I would love it if my fellow Kansans would stop voting for the people who put these measures on our ballots.

Based on that provision, our state supreme court has required adequate funding. The funding formula expires this year & there’s a big fight coming in the ‘27 ksleg.

In 2019, the Kansas Supreme Court held that the state constitution protects abortion rights. In 2022, voters *overwhelmingly* rejected a GOP-backed ballot measure that would have overruled that decision.
A beautiful story about a man who needed to move a couch. Sometimes, our country absolutely rules.
Do we have a good (serious) answer for this, lawprofs? Maybe con law is just whatever the political majority can get & has always been thus. Maybe our current court is corrupt. Maybe there are nuanced principles at play. What are we telling 1Ls trying to learn the system?

One of my kids is starting law school & he’s doing his pre-orientation reading & where he’s gotten to so far: Wouldn’t it be nice to resurrect John Marshall just to ask him “BRO what the fuck”
(If this were a practical proposal ... there could randomly selected panels adjudicating cases and justices moving between circuits when not busy in DC. 🤔)

Originalism! If we had the same ratio of justices to citizens we had in 1790, we'd have about 300 seats on the Court. If people take the Founding Fathers seriously ...

A country of 400 million should have a Supreme Court with 15 people on it, that is not a ridiculous idea, for the love of pete
Even better: Add 6 SCOTUS seats; add 2 federal Circuit Courts (split the 9th). Assign each Justice to a Circuit for emergency orders & rotated sitting-by-designation
