Hate Brexit and the con artists. #FBPE

Rupert Lowe being an outright fascist on #r4today He calls his ignorant, Islamophobic white-nostalgia bile “common sense thought” (“not rightwing thought”). With an ego bloated by Musk’s support of him on X, it seems unlikely that he and Farage would be able to make a pact. Small mercies… (iPaper)

Restore Reform pact unlikely, as ‘Farage simply can't be trusted'

Bad blood will prevent rival leaders uniting in long term, insiders insist

Sitting in his living room, Rupert Lowe made a bold offer on Sunday to his former boss turned bitter
enemy, Nigel Farage.
"Nigel, my message is simple," the Restore Britain leader intoned in a video on X, which has racked up 4.6 million views. "If you are prepared to work together around serious policies, serious reform and serious government, then so are we"
It came after his fledgling party again did better than expected in the Manchester mayoral election picking up 9 per cent of the vote.

Not enough to have seen a united party of the hard right beat Labour but enough to do serious damage to Reform at a general election.
A day later, Nigel
Farage (inset) delivered his response. "If it was the offer of a deal, it came in a very unusual way," he said. "I have responded to it potentially with an open mind, but I'm certainly not going to be ditching people who I view to be allies and a great asset."
In short, no headlong rush into negotiations, but a door seemingly left ajar.
Despite these overtures, insiders in both Reform and Restore think that the bad blood between Farage and Lowe will prevent them from uniting in the long-run.
Within Reform, the view is that Lowe sprang his offer on Farage with the purpose of embarrassing him and eliciting a rebuff.
A Reform councillor said:
"If there was ever any sort of approach to be had, it's done in private, it's done quite often initially through intermediaries.

Agreement on immigration belies differences in other areas, with Reform insiders dismissing a number of the items Lowe mentioned in the video as too extreme.
Lowe demanded "the banning of both halal and kosher slaughter"
He also said he wants a capital punishment referendum.
Lowe named several criminals residing in British prisons.

The prospect of retrospective death penalties was too much even for some Reformers.

"The separation of races is not a disease of colored people but a disease of white people. I do not intend to be quiet about it." Einstein was labeled radical left and was under FBI surveillance for his anti-racist political views. This is something I have only recently learned.

Minority communities in the UK have assimilated themselves into powerlessness. There seem to be no media platform for us, or representation in public life. If black and brown politicians & journalists cannot speak up for us when these things happen, what’s the point of them being in such positions?

I just can’t believe we’re seeing this sort of stuff from a sitting MP Just want to say to British Somalis that you are loved and I’m so, sorry this is happening.

The world burns and climate conferences resemble award ceremonies, where they roll out the red carpet and invite princes and actors, nothing has ever achieved, it’s just a jolly at the expense of the taxpayer. While those affected and those who really want change, are not invited.

This is pure extraction of wealth from one group of people to another We urgently need: Windfall tax on oil giants Windfall tax on banks Both are creaming money off us during a cost of living crisis Even Thatcher had the balls to tax the banks Will you @andyburnham?

Sad to see LibDems jump on the prison panic bandwagon. "We know some prisoners must be released earlier, but not them, or them, or him, or her, or them, etc..." is an infinite loop that destroys public trust. Also potentially dangerous, as it throttles arrest/prosecution/sentencing at the other end.

Or people like Trevor Phillips, who is a non practicing Black person, is invited to offer his opinion, with producers who invited him, knowing full well he will answer all questions reasonably well, so as not to make white Britain feel uncomfortable. Voices like mine, are never considered 2/2

Badenoch flailing around now on #r4today trying to defend this idiocy. Babbling incoherent nonsense. Truly woeful that this deeply unpleasant and thoroughly mediocre person is now Tory leader. And a better journalist than Justin Webb would have made that very clear. (Article from iPaper)

So Badenoch would recruit a neo-Nazi but *not* someone who didn’t want to leave the ECHR or someone who supported our NetZero commitments. Second chances for this guy but not Dominic Grieve. The Tory party is truly wretched. It’s screwed the country, betrayed its own and lost its tiny mind.

Badenoch defends former neo-Nazi pick as council candidate

Kemi Badenoch has said her party
"believes in second chances".
, after
the Conservatives selected a former neo-Nazi once jailed for harassing a Jewish former MP as a local election candidate.
Joshua Bonehill-Paine
posted on social media that he was "tremendously proud" that he has been chosen to stand for election to Somerset Coun-cil, in the Crewkerne South ward.
Bonehill-Paine (inset) was jailed in 2016 after he was convicted of racially aggravated harassment.
He wrote several blog posts about the former Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree, Baroness Luciana Berger, labelling her "an evil money-grabber" with a "deep-rooted hatred of men".

He was previously jailed for producing an ad illustrated with a picture of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz, which promised "an absolute gas" at a rally in Golders Green, north London.
Badenoch said: "I want to be very clear - and I think people can look at me and know that I'm not a person who would be recruiting neo-Nazis.
"Josh is someone who actually has been certified by the Home Office to train police officers on antisemitism and on countering extremism.
"Yes, he [has] previously convicted but he has shown contrition for his crimes, has been rehabilitated and is spending every day working to solve the very problem which he knew that he had caused previously.
"And the Conservative Party believes in second chances."

Reminder that the Tories believe any non-British person who commits more than a minor parking or traffic offence should be automatically deported. They “believe in second chances”, apparently, but only for literal Nazis.

It’s insane. It’s the perfect distillation of how Brexit has epically fucked the Tory party. 10 years on and they’ve binned off every sane and thoughtful member and replaced them with simpletons, liars and lunatics. All to keep the Brexit/far right myths alive.

There is a danger that by arguing the amount, we end up conceding the framing. Britain's welfare is ungenerous, the spend in total is mid-to-low table, and below past peaks. Benefits need reforming because they're unfit for purpose and trap, instead of enabling people. Not to make fantasy savings.

Chart of UK overall benefit spend, showing it lower than post-GFC or pandemic and largely in similar proportions, pensions being the largest chunk by far.Charts showing the UK is mid-table of comparative OECD countris on total social expenditure and bottom third in terms of cash benefits.Charts showing that the UK has the lowest welfare income replacement rate (ie. how far one's income drops if they lose their job) of any comparator OECD country, and third lowest, if you add housing benefit (which is more than the cash benefit element).Graph showing that the generosity of the UK's welfare spending has been declining over decades against trend.

Here’s a fun hypothetical for u (wait for the payoff) Imagine you’re a Polish software engineer & u come to work in London. You apply for a visa. You pay thousands in fees. The process gets harder the longer u stay because of successive Govts obsession with “bringing down net migration!”…

Pretending that the Navy taking back migrants would be a humanitarian mission and therefore legal, is a bit like pretending that a £5 million bribe is nothing to do with politics and therefore doesn't need to be declared.

Have to say… when Jenrick thought he needed to be a one-nation Tory to make it in Cameron’s govt, he went for it. Then a firm remainer. Then a Brexit evangelist to catch Johnson’s eye. And now full fash to creep up to his new far right gang. The needy little twat really wants to belong, doesn’t he…

The state of this. A lovely day out for Badenoch and Philp, playing dress up and making pronouncements about early release schemes - having left the country with one hundred available men's prison places, after fourteen years in charge. You read that right. One hundred places.

How the hell have journalists allowed Farage and Yusuf to pretend that their Royal Navy idea is a ‘humanitarian’ mission if ‘innocent’ immigrants are taken back to France, but a full-scale war-like ‘invasion’ of ‘illegals’ if coming our way? I mean, seriously. Please don’t be this hopeless…
