I don't think I will ever get tired of photographing lightning.

Please consider donating to my sweet friend’s GoFundMe. Her daughter lost everything (including their first home) in the tornado that tore through Poplar Bluff, MO Friday night. Their survival story is incredible 👇🏼👇🏼 gofund.me/69aabe90

This should have never happened. I’m so sorry for my NOAA/NWS friends today. 💔
Last Tuesday, I was set to give a talk on 'climate change in the Northeast' at a retirement home but had to cancel due to hourly job threats. After nearly two weeks of overwhelming uncertainty, today it happened. I was fired from my dream of working at NOAA. I'm so sorry to everyone also affected.
Does anyone have ANY bit of positivity to share? I’m crashing out hard. <photo from a moment when I felt happy>
Happy International Day of Women in Science-our team of artists and scientists who work together to complete the creative and science projects, comprised 75% of our team from 2020-2024. We access all sites via backpacking. The going gets tough but we get the task done. #climatechage #womeninscience
Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! Proud to be a Latina in atmospheric and climate science 💃🏽
A trump supporter told me that he didn't want his tax $ going towards research into "cloud shapes". The 4/26/24 cloud shape outbreak had minimal casualties and deaths despite occurring in the Omaha metro area. This was a direct result of research, forecasting, and warnings by NOAA, NWS, and SPC
Any further staff cuts to the National Weather Service “means we have a higher — maybe much higher — probability of missing life-saving weather warnings and giving people the heads up they need,” former AMS president/frmr NOAA official Mary Glackin told me. www.cnn.com/2025/02/05/w...

The National Weather Service, which is suffering its lowest staffing in decades, is staring down further cuts and the nomination of an agency leader they are wary of.

An attack on NSF is not just an attack on the staff working there; it's also an attack on academia as a whole. The aim is to starve out the universities and stop the training of new scholars. It's an attempt to rip out the system's roots and stems so it can't come back.
Heads up for the Weather Community! You can now find NOAA (@noaa.gov), NOAA Climate (@climate.noaa.gov) & NWS HQ (@nws.noaa.gov; still being set up) on Bluesky!
Surreal when there is literally no one else who will ever see it, sans the photo.
I should really post here more often. I enjoyed this gorgeous severe storm all to myself in eastern Colorado near Punkin Center on July 7th, 2024. These moments alone in an open field with nothing but desolate dirt roads and tumultuous skies are my absolute favorite.

Did you know we have such talented photographers on here where you can buy incredible storm shots from their stores and display it in your house? These are the works of 1) @wxkylegillett.bsky.social 2) @dopplerjess.bsky.social 3) @spahn711.bsky.social
I strongly recommend people start downloading every piece of science they can from government servers and back it up to non-government sources. Most especially from NASA and NOAA. science.nasa.gov/climate-chan...

If this isn’t enough reason to love Bluesky over virtually any other platform, I’m not sure what is. Can’t love this enough.
A number of artists and creators have made their home on Bluesky, and we hear their concerns with other platforms training on their data. We do not use any of your content to train generative AI, and have no intention of doing so.
This is a kick ass list of kick ass weather, space, and climate ladies on Bluesky. Should be a no brainer to hit that “Follow All” button 🌪️ go.bsky.app/2knVQAF
Showing a little Oregon love today. While my main focus is storm photography, I also enjoy landscape and wildlife photography tremendously, so I’ll share plenty of those photos as well.
15M people on Bluesky!!! 💫 The Verge beat us to our own announcement — that's the beauty of an open network with public stats!

Twin bolts strike the earth on the backside of a cluster of severe storms near Springfield, CO during golden hour. Notice the faint rainbow next to the right bolt ⚡️ 🌈 5/15/2021
I genuinely love BlueSky. It feels like early Twitter days before ads and Elon polluted it with toxicity.
My therapy tonight is organizing my photo catalogs and editing as I go. How’s everyone else managing this evening? Here’s a shot of an amazing tornado I captured just on the outskirts of Windthorst, TX on May 25th of this year.
Two weeks ago today, I chased a handful of severe storms near Stockton and Glade, Kansas that, while fairly uneventful severe-wise, ended with a truly brilliant sunset. The rainbow was a nice touch 🌈
